Acura/Honda most stolen for parts
The San Diego Police Department's crime analysis data shows that between January and September of 2006 almost 10,000 cars were stolen in the city of San Diego of them almost 2,000 were Hondas or Acuras, cars that are traditionally used in street racing, Sanders said. (And) 312 of those were recovered with missing motors and/or transmissions.

Typically, law enforcement officers who find cars with stolen motors or transmissions stolen or that have had their ID numbers removed have destroyed the part and then returned the car to its owner.
San Diego police Officer Tim Coyle, who works in the department's Drag-Net Unit, said that officers would sometimes see the same car recovered two or three times with newly stolen parts.
To keep that from happening, city officials are employing California Vehicle Code Section 10751, which authorizes them to crush the entire car.
Vehicle owners are to be notified beforehand, and can appeal the decision at a hearing that must be held within 90 days of the vehicle being seized.

So sad to see that car being crushed in the video. (I like the rims!)

Let me help you!
I think this would work better in car talk.
Anyway, Honda's have always been high on the list. My accord was broken into twice in 6 months. It's always in the thief's best interest to target a car with a high population...it'll always be easy to sell the parts.
From your quote...it sounds like if they keep finding cars equipped with stolen equipment, they'll invoke their car-crushing law?

I wonder what the likelyhood is for riced hatchback owners to have a stolen motor in their car? I'm thinking somewhere near 30% or more?
If that's the case and I'm a cop, I'd pull over as many lower Civic hatches has possible. :cop: There's a good chance the car will have either a non-smog compliant swapped motor and/or having a stolen motor.
