Accuracy of TSX Arrival Dates (TIRED OF WAITING)
So here's the scoop - I talked to the dealer today, and he tells me that my TSX is expected 8/6. When I put my deposit down (on 7/7), he says it should be here on 8/4. OK, no big deal, two extra days. Then he qualifies himself today and says "but some customers have had their cars delayed by up to two weeks" as if to hint that the two extra days may become 14 days.
My question I guess is this - how reliable are the arrival dates? Did many of you get your cars before the dealer said it would be expected? later than expected? and by how long?

I inquired about this, and the sales guy said he didn't know, and he doesn't know the VIN yet either. Is that unusual, given that the car is supposed to be here in about 2 weeks?

I ordered mine on June 21st.
I was told that if they couldn't find a matching car already on hand, it would be about 5 weeks; one to process the order, three for the car to cross the Pacific, one from California to Ohio.
On June 24th, I received the VIN number of a matching car that was already headed for another dealer in the region and was slotted to me. Expected arrival date of First week in July but it was in fact delayed by two weeks.
It finally arrived on July 21st.
From what I gather around here, I did okay.

My build date was 5/19 and I got the car 6/24. My dealer couldn't tell me the vin or even where it was until it hit the cost. My car came in to San Diego, then to Arizona, then to Ohio and then to me.

My dealer indicated that my build date was 4/24 and that my car would be on the lot by memorial day weekend (5/24). When it didn't arrive, I drove around a 2003 TLs off their lot until it did. June 13th ended up being my delivery date. Push back on them if they can't honor the delivery date to see what you can get out of it; cheaper options, etc. Your aggreement to buy the vehicle was with the expecation that the vehicle would be arriving on a certain date. A date you can't make up. A date that only they can communicate to you. If they were customer conscience, they wouldn't have communicated only the best case senario. Information like that only preps you as a consumer to expect it in and around that week. Not good when the date comes and goes.

See my sig for my date info. My salesman told me originally that the car would get here 7/15 (then he told me the 4th, then the 7th). I stayed with the expectation of the 15th because I didn't believe in best-casing it (especially with some of the late-delivery horror stories floating around the board at that time). The dealer came through for me.
Basically it comes down to build date and VIN. If they can't tell you when the car was built that means it HASN'T been built, and there's no way it's getting here sooner than 3-4 weeks. They could even still be scrambling to make a dealer trade that they can't do. Once you have a VIN, you're "confirmed", your car is "yours", and it's ready to get on the boat, and they can make a more reasonable estimate on delivery date.

arrival date
I ordered/put a deposit down on mine in mid-June and was told that it would arrive in late July. I took delivery on 7/14.
I was told by the sales mgr at the dealership where I purchased my TSX that you are assigned a VIN when the car hits our shores.
At this point the sales mgr was able to track/update the status of my car almost daily until it arrived.

I put my deposit down June 25th and I have been told I will not be receiving the car till mid september.
I live in Australia and apparently we havent been allocated any from the factory till then, because they are all going to the much larger North American market.
The dealers here only have a couple of demostraters in each dealership and are taking orders from those.

I was given the 4 to 12 days and no vin.
It sounds like another shipment is due in early August and they
are hoping to either trade one or get it assigned.
They currently had 4 auto trans and 1- 6 spd sitting of various
colors.
Of course I left the message on my answering machine so I can
raise hell if they fail to deliver.

I have a VIN number, a "ship date" of 7/22 but no build date. I don't know if it's in the U.S. or not. #10,191. Has anybody in the 10,000'ths received their car yet?
My sales guy doesn't seem very knowledgeable (he's new), maybe I should go directly to the sales manager.
Sigh, I'm tired of waiting.

Situation Resolved
Well, the SSM TSX I had a deposit for was delayed 3 more weeks, until the end of August. I had a feeling that would happen. However, my dealer had the opportunity to trade two RSXs to another dealer in NY who happened to have the car I want in stock. So, they swapped cars and I got the SSM TSX "early." I was more than happy to get the car now at the expense of about 200 miles on the odometer!
So, it appears that my TSX is worth the same as two RSXs!

There are two reports dealers use to determine a delivery time. One report shows the build squedule. You can only assume a delivery date based on that report. It will give a build date range. Like 6-15 to 6-21. That is a 6 day spread. And keep in mind the TSX comes from Japan, unlike some of the other products. A ship may have to change course several times to avoid storms etc.... Once the vehicle is close to the dealer, say withing two weeks, the vehicle will be assigned a VIN and a eta of delivery. Which is usually pretty accurate, within a day or two of the assigned date. We usually say 4-6 weeks once we recieve a build date.
Hope this helps.
