Almost every time I go home. There's this straight stretch of road that's pretty deserted, and I can never resist redlining 1 and 2....

Why does this poll have to be exclusive to 6MT drivers?

Auto's have Vtec too

I guess Larch was right, this site does have a "pecking order"

I never felt so left out. :'(

Sorry! The reason I left out autos is because MOST auto drivers wont use the sport shift, or wont use it often so it may weigh the results too much towards the "never" side.

But if you are an auto driver that likes to use the sport shift then feel free to respond!

I think I may modify the poll before I get flamed to death

I hope you guys know I'm joking right? But I voted anyway because I do use SS often and I'd say I hit Vtec at least once per week, but its been a couple of weeks since I've been that high.

Too late -- you already made your feelings known!!!

(And what I was talking about was "inner feelings.")

But "it's all good" -- or anyway it better be, because that's how I feel about it too!

I have a better poll.

Have people just look at the choices -- and don't tell them what the question is, but make them guess.

LOL, that would be funny! I think I know what most people would think the subject is and would all hope to put "few times a day"

I have AT but drive Sports shift 80% of the time. I redline it every other day and hit VTEC very often. A lot of other driver will want to race with me all the time. Bimmer from 325~330 being the most.

Too bad I can not have an 6MT because of my wife, or I will drive it like crazy.

I'd glad to see more and more people are hearing this noise, so I am now not so worried as well. Maybe this noise can be used like a shift light!

I hit vtec basically every time I take it out. Should I, uh, not be doing this?

(I may hate myself for asking this)

It all depends on my mood. If i feel "spirited"... then my RPM needle becomes "spirited" and often rises to the 7400 cut-off. hehehe. I'd say i VTEC everyday... at LEAST once. I need my VTEC fix! I have a little ritual ever since i owed my 00 Civic Si. Theres a stretch of road right before i get home... that I call my VTEC road. I'd have to say though... it was more fun in my Si.

VTEC kicks in around 6200 rpms. You may also hear a change in engine sound and feel a slight surge in power, although its far less pronounced on these i-vtec engines.

Here's today's dumb, dumber, and purely dumbest question of the day, all in one: What on earth do y'all mean by "hitting vtec"?

I know it's in the engine, right? (I had owned my TSX for three weeks before I opened the hood for the first time, and I recall seeing iVTEC in red letters.) At least I know you're not talking about the rattle in the headliner.

I'm lucky if I hit a pesty squirrel on the road, but hitting something in my engine is beyond me! I guess that makes me a vtec virgin.

edit: oh yeah I hit it as soon as she's warmed up, damn I love this car.

All someone means when they say "hit VTEC" is, have you reached 6200RPM? thus, engaing VTEC in the engine. So your not really hitting anything just reaching a point so to speak.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people

I hope you were'nt planning on opening your hood and banging on the red i-VTEC lettering on your engine Brad

I have to agree. Back when I had my 98 GS-R I would hit and pass VTEC several times dailiy. In fact became very fond of the 8100RPM's redline and also met Mr.Fuel Cutoff a few times a week too.

Now that my main goal is gas conservation, VTEC just is'nt as fun.

only one point around 6000 rpms.

And by hitting vtec, i meant reaching that specific rpm in which the high rpm vtec lobes take over.

I had an Accord EX with the VTEC 2.2 engine for a while. I can't recall ever being aware of "hitting VTEC." But, with my TSX AT, I do sometimes rev the engine over 6,000 RPM.

Ever since the rains have come back, I've been chillin' on the vtec.
For whatever reason, the thrill has diminished as well. I think I'll trade in my TSX for the new M5.

OK, hitting VTEC means hitting at least 6200 rpm? I don't know if I have done that, so perhaps I'm a probable vtec-virgin. And what happens then when one "hits vtec"?

Does the engine let out a nasty purr or growl or something?

you should feel a slight 'boost' if you will, it is actaully refressing that you feel more power rather than loosing it.

i hit it this morning on the GW parkway.

there wasn't a lot of traffic, and no one behind me, so i let myself lag a bit, downshifted, and then sped up. i turned down the stereo and listened for it. i heard a very, very subtle noise and felt the slight power boost, around 6500 rpm or so, i think.

The stock resonator and airbox really dampen the VTEC cam jump sound. After getting my Injen CAI on, it's REALLY noticeable.

Used to be few times per day, but the new winter were quite expensive, so now I might redline few times per week (and definitely corner a little slower). Still need that sound now and again!

I hit it atleast once a day, sometimes twice a day. I just love getting on the empty freeway here in San Luis Obispo and just taking off. Its even more fun when people try to follow me.

I have a 20-mile freeway commute, and I probably reach VTEC RPM about 2 or 3 times in that stretch (each way).

It's occasionally necessary when merging into traffic to have "power on hand" during which the RPM will be in VTEC range in 2nd gear, where it seems most noticeable (5AT).

I have that urge too , but I can't even do that. I barely have 300 miles on my car, so I won't be doing any vtec soon (save for accidental gear misses

Well I hope all 4 of the people who voted "never" are in your situation. Other wise they've got about 40 or 50 hp sitting there being wasted

There's a cloverleaf on my way to work that feeds into a truck lane going up a hill. If there's no one in front of me, then :flamer:

I thought vtec point is at around 5000~5500rpm? 6000 seem to be high?
