3rd Gen TL guys needs advice on TSX.

My girlfriend's mom wrecked my girl's 2005 Honda Accord. She has been car shopping for a couple of days now. She drove the A4, and then IS250AWD, which she fell in love with. She hates the A4The IS250 is $25,000 and it's just too much money. She only received $12,000 for her car so she is going to have to take out a loan for the rest... she doesn't want a high payment. I told her that she should look at the TSX and so today she did and left a deposit on one. 2006 Acura TSX with like 44k Navi but the salesman sold it to her for $19,900. Too much IMO so tomorrow I'm going to other dealers too see what they have.

What do you guys think? I think the TSX hook up looks just as good if not better sometimes then the TL. But at the same time I might want her to consider the TL because they seem to be the same price as the TSX.

Well, pricing can vary depending on your area, but unless the car is certified and comes with an extended warranty, the price is likely too high by anywhere from a few hundred to nearly $1k. Probably not the best idea to have put a deposit down before the price was settled, but you still have room to negotiate. I presume the deposit is refundable so you can always walk away from the deal.

I would've pushed for $19k on that TSX (if it's a CPO, then $19,900 is not too bad).

As for TSX vs. TL, the TSX is a sportier ride with a high-revving 4-cylinder vs. TL riding smooth and with a refined V6. The TL's a bit bigger too (rear leg room notably). Which is better? That's preference. I drove both, and decided I liked the sporty characteristics of the TSX. I'd recommend she does the same. Always test drive every car you're interested in before buying, it's the only way to know you bought the right one.

Well if your girl is pretty young which I assume, go for the TSX, I also like the look of the TL, although a bit overall nicer tends more for the older crowd..

I too was in this situation , and my girl didnt want to look "mommyish"

Thanks a lot guys. It's so funny how opinions can drastically change from TL forum to TSX forum. They all think those prices are so soo high! I see where they are coming from but either way opinions are obviously going to be biased.

But... on a price stand point. 2005 TSX Black/Black CPO 37k with Navi. Asking 18,900. What do you guys think? Feel free to post an opinion PLEASE! Good or bad I can use any and all advice. Thanks!

19,900 with 44k miles or km's? if it's 44k miles for 19,900 then I think that's too high....

the 04-08 TL's are good too but it's a bigger car so it'll feel less sporty then a tsx

I think it's high then because here in Canada, I see some used 05's for around $20k cad which is like $16k usd and they only have like 40k miles on them

as the owner of a 06 tsx I love having the oil life indicator which the 05 does not have. In NC we have to pay an annual vehicle tax based on the value of the car. I received my bill a few weeks ago-the value was $20,250. I recommend the tsx as I have had no problems with it after 74,000+miles.

Given her age, I would certainly recommend the TSX over the TL. Even if the cars are the same price, the TL can be expected to have a higher total cost of ownership.

For price, consider deprecation at about 25 cents per mile for non-CPO and about .18 cents per mile for CPO.

detailinguy,

Why aren't you going to the same auction where you bought your TL ?

yeah, your girl got ass jacked. the car isn't even worth that much. the NADA clean retail value is only $19,650. your girl needs to learn how to shop. i wouldn't be surprised if they only had around $15-16k in that car.

I had a similar situation recently. My girlfriend was driving my 2000 Honda accord and wrecked it. I did some creative talking with the insurance company and body shop and ended up eventually getting the car totalled, and i bought her a 2004 TSX non nav with 76k miles for 12k. the book value on that car was around $13,200 and the dealership was asking like $14,500. i put $6500 down on it so her payments wouldn't be high. we weren't looking for anything new because we're planning to get her something new in a year or two when she gets out of school. probably a 370Z.

i say go back to the dealership and redo the deal. she hasn't taken delivery of the car, the loan isn't finalized, she doesn't have to take it. you can go and renegotiate that deal. you'll probably be in a much stronger position to do so now because they know you can buy the car, and that you will buy it if they get you the deal you want.

had that happen a few years ago to my mom and brother, long story short they bought a car without me there, first mistake, and they got ass jacked. i went back the next day, got him $2300 off the price he paid the day before, and dropped his note by $40 a month.

good luck with everything.
