3M Scotchguard on EBAY

Is this a legit deal from anyone's experience? I really want to get a clear bra now that I'm getting the front end repainted (long story, I'll leave that for another thread).

It seems cheap to me based on prices I've been quoted at regular dealers. I'm pretty sure I could install it myself.

Thoughts?

Scotchguard? That's the stuff you spray on fabric.

I think it might be called scratchguard.

Yeah that might be it, either way it looks to be the same exact stuff they use at the authorized 3M dealers.

not easy to install.. easy for those that do it for a living.. expensive to pay someone..

don't say its not expensive unless you'll do it for free

Well... seems like a legit 3M brand to me. It's up to you. A clear bra is a clear bra.

Look for a professional installer. If you do it your self it will be an expensive piece of saran wrap. These kits are not easy to put on. It is worth paying for the install. I paid $600.00 to have mine put on before I became an installer.

Well, maybe. One of the Commanders on base decided to scrape my rear bumper with a gov't vehicle. Apparently, the Navy pays for the damage b/c it was in a gov't vehicle so I decided that when I get the bumper fixed, I may get the front fixed out of my own pocket...well only the hood first, then maybe the bumper later. I'll only do it if I can afford the clearbra with it. It's just not worth repainting every year with these damn CT roads in the winter.

Oh, and you're car will still be way nicer than mine with your body kit, wheels ,and especially that suspension I'm oh so jealous of....I would kill for that!

Those prices at dealers include installation. Do not underestimate this!

I already posted about this in another thread a week or so ago, but you must have missed it. I did think that over $500 sounded like a lot, but after attempting the install myself, all of a sudden, $500 doesn't seem so bad! (Or was it $599?)

I'd say, if you think you can do window tint, this is kind of similar, except that it requires a bit more "stretching" to go around curves. It took me about 5 hours to do the hood, fender corners, and mirrors (not even the bumper). And I probably made mistakes that a professional wouldn't have made, so the results may not end up looking as good. (On the other hand, it hasn't even finished "curing" and you can't easily see it unless you get close to the car, so I'd say that it looks OK, and hopefully will look better.)

I bought the kit from a website. I used Google, and found two that sold kits for various cars, but one was noticably cheaper, and includes tools.

Unless you're really handy, I wouldn't recommend this as a self-install. But it seemed like a good idea at the time!

That's the spirit! No, really, I'm sure some of you guys could do it OK, probably better than me. Not better than someone experienced with it, though. Personally, I'm willing to suffer a few imperfections in order to save a few bucks.
