37.9 mpg for 350 miles on 06 PWP Navi 6 speed

Wow. This car amazes me. Going from Redwood City to Santa Monica tonight, I got 37.9mpg. Even used A/C at some parts because it was 90 degrees outside. this is with going up and down the grapevine and through 152. I filled up in redwood city and jumped on the freeway. I still have over 1/4 tank left. I think I'm between 1/2 and 1/4 according to the gauge. I have a CAI and exhaust on the car.

Are you going off of the MID? If so, you might as well deduct about 1.5 MPG from that as the MID has been known to be off between .5 - 2 MPG. Either way, good numbers. Plus, the AC shouldn't make that much of a difference.

Agreed.

And he most likely is going by the MID because I don't see a way for him to calculate mileage manually without another fill up.
Still.... good numbers nonetheless.

What was your avg. speed? I have a hard time staying under 80mph on I-5 which tends to affect my mileage.

I saw mine hit 40.x mpg once. Granted, I had just filled up and was coasting down a very steep hill at high speed. It doesn't take much to throw the average out of whack when the Trip has been recently reset.

With the intention of seeing how high an MPG I could get, I hit 38.8 going from Oakland, down south on the 5 to SoCal. I hit it after 90 miles, but the drive was torturous! I was hovering around 60mph all the time, and to do that I had to hide behind big rigs in the right lane. I finally decided, "forget this," turned out and started to gas. Back at 70-80mph, I heaved a sigh of relief. I ended up at 33MPG for the 400 mile trip.

I was coming back home one night, 170 mile trip... I refilled about 40 miles from home, and I was so tired that I set the cruise at 60MPH. About 20 miles from home I saw the average fuel economy sitting at 37.3... When I posted about it in another thread, people seemed to confirm that it was more accurate than I originally thought, which is cool... However, if I had been totally energized or if it was day time, I'd have it at 70mph minimum The TSX is not happy being driven slow. The price of excellent fuel economy is higher than the price of excellent driving pleasure.

I think I once saw mine hit 42, and it was on a flat, windy road (also after fill-up). Of course, once I got into nasty traffic and steep hills, I was back to 21-22 as usual. Most of my driving is work commute with no highway unfortunately.

tsturbo: I just broke 9000 miles on my car. Had it since April 12th. I am running Mobil 1 extended performance, 5w-30

jlukja: I have a Valentine 1, but I wanted to see what I could get coming down, set the cruise on 70, and just went. I don't have a need to speed. If I want to, I typically will go to a trackday. I actually sometimes instruct for www.unlimitedlaps.com.

I think the cams will have an affect. I got a Hondata heatshield from my friend this weekend, I will install that when I get back to Norcal.

Oh, I see that you have a 250. Those are a little better in mpg. The 350 hauls, but it's only an auto. I like the Lotus better.

dats a lot of miles. I've never seen it read more than 31mpg. Even while I was joining the 500 mile club it still read low.

That is pretty good the best I have had my MID read after sustained miles is like 34ish. Of course if I hit the highway right after I reset it I can get it into the 40s but it does not last long.

I'm not sure how the mileage is calculated, but I'm sure there is some variance from car to car. Of course, nothing beats the old fashioned way of calculating fuel economy.

Using data that the ECU has on hand already, it seems like it would be pretty easy to extrapolate exactly how much fuel was being injected with each pulse. Using that data, one could theoretically derive exactly how much fuel the engine was consuming over a certain distance, and thus calculate a very accurate MPG figure.

I saw my MID hit 48 mpg today. Of course it was right after a fill-up, but it was NOT on the highway or a long down hill. It was about 3 miles of windy, flat suburban road. It was still going up when I entered into a stop-and-go section, so I feel like I could have hit 50 if that section was longer. Of course, it's all completely meaningless since my non-highway work commutes will bring it down to about 20-21 before the end of the tank.

That's awesome mileage. I've never gotten more than 32 on a mostly freeway trip, but I think I could if I tried.

I'm like jlukja, can't keep it below 80mph nor keep my foot out of the throttle. It's too damn fun
