34 MPG - WHOO Who!!

Just did a small road trip and averaged 34 MPG, haven't been on a road trip in the X in a while, forgot how good it is, as it is mainly my wife's car. Very impressed. Anxious to see if MPG's get even better when fully broken in. Only 8,800 miles.

Wow that's impressing! I just did a hurricane evacuation trip last week from new orleans, louisiana to atlanta, georgia and averaged 25 MPG in really bad stop and go traffic and some highway driving. My 08 TSX now shows about 5,500 miles on the odometer. I surely hopes that it gets even better with high gas prices around.

Highest I got was only 29 on a 70 mph cruise control going to Florida with no brakes until I went to get gas. =[

Yes! I have gotten consistently over 30 mpg with freeway driving with my 04 TSX too. Isn't that great? This is actually one big reason why I don't want to trade it up for another car yet...

It's great isn't it? One of the things I love about the TSX, fantastic mileage on the highway, but it will still go in a hurry if you need to(even if it means downshifting to 3rd, hehe). Not civic numbers but definetly Accord numbers. After all, it is an Accord basically...

I averaged 32MPG for a trip from Philly to the middle of the Adirondacks mountains(going around NYC), up to the northern tip of Vermont, and back to Philly via I-81/Binghamton. Averaging around 75 on the interstates, slowed to 55ish in the mountains, and even having some fun passing people and hauling around some curves in the Adirondacks. This was over 7 days this summer. There is some non-interstate driving as well, cutting through central NJ to get from I-95/Trenton up to I-287. Oh and the AC was on most if not all the time.

I believe I do get a little better mileage using Shell Vpower. Fill up with it if you can, before a road trip. A penny or two more is worth it, IMO but of course if it's .10 higher, don't bother.

I find my MID is more accurate when I'm on 90% highway for a tank, the difference is less than 1MPG. It usually runs right around 1.5MPG optimistic.

My straight highway mileage (up and down moderate hills on I-40) is 35-39 MPG. Average weekday driving varies from 25 MPG to 30 MPG. Of course, driving conservatively helps. I can't do that 100% of the time, though.

On pure highway I got it up to 43mpg.. could've went higher if my trip was longer (I have a pic on my cellphone with it at 41.5 mpg on a 38 mile trip... thats because I had to get off the highway and drive city streets).

99.9 mpg (yeah, for the first 0.3 mile )

odannyboi, I'm quite surprised that you can get 43.5 Mpg with the TSX. The best mileage that i ever recorder by far is only 34 MPG. With that, i always keep the engine speed under 2500 and the speed under 70. (and it never lasts more than half hour, since its just boring, hehe )

Hi there.

I don't know how you guys are getting such high numbers. It doesn't seem to add up. I think many of you are getting numbers from the MPG display, which may be inaccurate.

I think the most practical way to calculate MPG is to fill up, drive to E and then divide! The TSX has a 15 gallon tank with a 2 gallon reserve. That means from F to E is 15 gallons. My last tank I got 500 miles. I think an average TSX gets around 400-450 in mixed driving. Let's do some math!

350/15=23.33

400/15=26.67

450/15=30

500/15=33.33

550/15=36.67

I babied this tank to get to 500. 90% freeway driving, 2.5k granny shifting, ~60mph freeway, only used AC once (I live in Vegas...I'm crazy), very limited spirited driving. I have a 6mt with intake, exhaust, and reflash. I used Chevron 91. This was over the course of about two weeks.

I don't see the TSX being able to get much more than 500. Maybe 100% freeway and without using much throttle.

Although I have mods, they should actually increase my mileage. After I get my CT headers on, I expect a small gain. I also have a system in which weighs ~100lbs. If I take that out, It may help MPG, but that's stretching it.

If you guys could elaborate on your driving styles or anything else that could contribute to the numbers that are being put down, I'd appreciate it. Also, try to do a tank reading instead of using the MPG readout. I think more accurate numbers will be found! I've noticed that people with the MPG readout are claiming numbers much higher than those without it.

When I get gas a random station I get barely 30-32 mpg max but lately I've been getting shell because I avg around 34. This past summer when I was in oregon for vacation wow the gas there rocks. I was getting 36-37 on the way home and someone was telling me its cause they don't have to add the same stuff that ca state law requires.

Welcome to the forums.

Now that we've said that ... you need to review the OTHER threads about mileage that we post in, and you'll see that many of us (not all, but many) really do know how to do the math. For one, we don't drive to "E" and then just divide our mileage by 15. (Maybe that was just an example.)

The MID readout IS usually inaccurate. I found that the known odometer issue (there was a class action suit) usually accounts for a 1.5 mpg exaggeration in the MID readout, so I only record it for entertainment. I calculate my mileage with actual gas used and miles traveled. My mileage record can be seen (at least in aggregate) at www.FuelEconomy.gov (under 2006 5AT TSX') .You might have to login and create an account to see my individual record. Give it a try.

Unfortunately, from time to time, I think I visit a gas pump which is not giving me an accurate quantity readout. When my MID calculated 26.5 MPG, but the gas that I put in computes out to 20.0 MPG, I tend to suspect that the pump charged me for more gas than actually went in the tank.

I've been sticking to Shell lately. There's a coupla stations that are cheap, and with my 5% rebate card, the premium gas is cheaper than the cheapest, at Costco.

P.P.S. ... www.GasBuddy.com links to all the regional sites ... though your login/account for one seems to be propagated to all (central user dB). SUPERB RESOURCE for finding low prices in your area, even if you're particular about brands or specific stations.

the MID said 43mpg... but its just for fun (i'm guessing it was really 38mpg).

That said ... it's not ALWAYS 5% over. Sometimes it's under. I'm unsure if that's an inexactitude of the station's gas pump, or something else.

Also keep in mind that those of us with manuals, our 6th gear is lower then the 5th on the AT's. The 5at's get slightly better mileage then us.

The highest I've ever gotten was 36mpg (indicated 37.5) on a 320 mile trip.

Let's see, my best for a full tank of gas on the stock tires is 36.29 mpg, average is 28.39 mpg.
Best on my summer tires (235/40/18) is 32.76 average is 24.51 mpg.
Best on winter snow tires (205/60/16) is 26.62 mpg average is 23.08 mpg.

Remember this is over a whole tank of gas averages.

That class action suit covered cars bought on 11/7/06 or before. I originally was getting my car on that date but ended getting it on the 17th, therefore, it is not covered. I try to get my gas from WaWa, which I found out, gets it's gas from the same deliverer of Exxon gas. Do you know where cosco gas comes from. I have checked my gas mileage do it the old fashion way (yes, i know how to do it.) and find my mid to be accurate (never 5% off)

Actually, the SETTLEMENT of the suit only applied to some original owners of vehicles, and vehicles bought during a certain peroid, but so far's I've read, Honda did not correct the problem in the 2006 MY. Or later. Maybe they did ... but I've read a LOT of posts by others with later series who indicate their MID mileage is a bit off, and that leads me to suspect the odometer issue is more widespread.

My vehicle entered service 3/2006, so I'm a little miffed that only original owners got the settlement. I wouldnt mind my extended warranty running until 110,000.

my vehicle entered service 9/2006. I am the original owner. The dealership gave me an extended powertrain warranty 7yrs-100,000 miles instead of 6yr/70,000 miles.
