Hello everyone,

I am considering a 2008 TSX with 147,000 miles. I realize it's kind of high mileage, but I'm hoping to get at least 4 years of casual use out of it. How long do these cars usually last? From what I can tell, this car has been serviced extremely well. The Carfax report shows numerous service visits to an Acura dealer for everything from replacement of the serpentine belt to the timing chain tensioner to multiple transmission fluid changes.

In general, will this car likely last me another ~100k miles if maintained? Are there any major issues with these cars that I should worry about?

Edit: I realize I wrote that I would like it to last 4 years and then ask whether it will last me 100k miles. I don't plan to drive it 100k miles in 4 years, but I would like a minimum of 4 years (~50k miles?) and another 100k would be amazing.

Disclaimer: I don't own a TSX. My girlfriend is in the market for one, so I've done a fiar amount of research.


If the car has been well cared for, then 147k isn't much of a worry. Sure, things wear out (suspension components, starters, alternators, etc.), but the TSX drive-train seems nearly bulletproof (Honda k series engines are very reliable).

Have you driven the car?

My GF and I looked at one a few weeks ago (with around 140k) that was fairly beat to hell. Even with a list of faults and years of neglect, it was still one of the best driving cars I've experienced.

If this one's been cared for, I'd see no reason to not expect 4 years of service from it.

 

I also don't have a TSX, but an RDX...

I drove a 2007 Accord V6 with 217,000 miles, it drove exactly like new, steering was excellent and sharp... It want even in that good of shape too...

The transmission was even serviced, that's great...

It'll run as long as you want it to...

 

If the maintenance has been thorough and the car has been driven sensibly, it will reach your milestones. I've owned my 2004 since new and now it's at 210 k miles and it still hums. 04's have been singled out for AC failures and HVAC display failures, but these issues were settled long before the 08's rolled out. Common ills among Gen I cars are warped brake rotors, PS line leaks (covered by recall), clouded headlights, and other relatively minor issues. Get a PPI for the mileage example you are looking at, but if it checks out, the TSX is a very reliable vehicle.

 

The 2008 was the last model year for the 1st gen, so a lot of the bugs were worked out. If it checks out from an independent mechanic, then I think it would certainly last another 10+ years. I would suggest changing the oil at a set interval, though, and not what the MM in the dash tells you. I think the intervals are too long, and are done so Honda/Acura can show low annual maintenance costs.

 

Hard to say with used cars, depends how well the original owner maintained the car.

2006 TSX with 205k miles, still going with no drive train issues. Just the recall stuff and for some reason Honda/Acura uses cheap brake rotors that warp.
