2007 TSX Alabaster Silver Metallic: Buy or don't buy?
I'm looking at a used 2007 TSX, Alabaster Silver Metallic color with 84K miles, the stealership is selling it for $15,598. This car was a lease car and only had one owner, the previous owner put 22K a year for the 4 year lease.
The car rides great, engine is quiet and the transmission seems to be in good shape (auto). The only issue is there are some scratches around the body panels, the front bumper has some scuffles on the bottom, rock chips on the bumper, hood and chrome grill piece. Is it still worth paying $15,598 for it?

It seems just a little much but finding an 07 tsx with less mileage will be a little tough. For that money you could probably find an 04-08 TL with similar mileage. But if you like the car and it seems to be in good condition its your call, look around online and see how much other people are asking or use KBB to see what a reasonable asking price is.

According to KKB this would be the reasonable price. The only thing I'm torn about is the scratches, bumper scuffs. Everything about the car is still in good condition, the leather interior is in good shape, the oem rims have no curb marks.
I wonder if a complete detail job will get rid of the scratches...

Two comments...
Used car prices are high right now, particularly those from Japan, since supplies of new cars are short due to the Tsunami-related plant shutdowns. (The Wall Street journal just did a story on it.)
And in response to Vishnu's comment about TL's, believe it or not, used TSXs are now valued by KBB & Edmunds at nearly same price as similar year TLs. It is mainly due to demand, and it is something that has been gradually occurring over several years.
Two years ago, the 1G TSX was the highest rated car in retained resale value. --Not just among Acuras (versus say the TL), but among ALL cars of any model and brand.

Maybe you could work something out with the seller, like making them getting rid of the scratches/scuffs, and a complete detail job.

Quite often a dealer will address scratches or paint problems in order to close the deal.
They can repaint a bumper at cost, and repair such things cheaply, since they often have in-house an body shop -- or access to a good one nearby. You just say, I'll pay "X" since it is close to market value, but since that value is listed for a car without problems, can you take care of these things? (I've had it happen twice.)

How deep are the scratches? As Boulder TSX said, the dealer can buff them away as long as their not deeper than the clear coat. Assuming the scuffs are not too severe, a detailing would easily take care of it.

There are a few scratches that is deep, beyond the clear coated. Those will have to be sanded and repainted. Btw, I picked up the car for 12K, did some engine bay detailing over the weekend but have a date already scheduled to take it in for a complete detailing job and scratches+scuff removal job. I'll post up pictures soon.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Ever since I picked up the car (Saturday, July 16th) I already drain and refill the transmission fluid 3x, oil change, brake fluid change, power steering fluid change, and brake change.
Next on my list is a exterior detailing job and scratch/scuff removal.

Do before and after pix please.. I love looking at detailling pix ... Are you planning on any mods? The K24 is a great engine to mod with good gains in power.

After that than I plan to put in a AEM SRI intake, a Apexi WS2 and maybe a DC sports header. Maybe later down the road I'll drop it on some coilovers, maybe Function and Form? We'll see.

Yes I plan on molding this baby, right now I have a set of 6K D2S bulb and a H11 3K HID kit waiting to go onto the car, just waiting for this humid MN weather to cool down a bit.

WS2 is the best exaust. Mellow with added mid-range. I had it on my 98 Prelude SH, 95 Civic EX w/abs and B16B CTR motor. DC header for the K-series motor is nice. Very good mid-range/top-end. The short ram AEM I would do. The K24 has heat soak issues like my S2000 had. The CAI eliminated that problem. Heat soak reduces low-end power/ta dramatically. Just some food for thought.
If I do go cold air, AEM is the brand so that way I can get the bypass valve. I wonder if AEM make a V2 CAI for the K24?
