I don't think $99 is outrageous for the NY metro area. Its probably equivelant to 1 hour of labor at Acura's labor rate in NY. Sounds reasonable I guess.

I'm an engineer, and what you're saying about "the power required to start them rolling" and "propel the car further" makes no sense. Rolling resistance is real--it may not be a factor in this case, but it's a very real phenomenon.

Whenever two surfaces touch, there's friction, plain and simple. Overcoming this friction uses some of the car's energy, which decreases fuel economy (because it uses more fuel per time), depending how significant the friction is. Ever notice how your tires get warm after driving for awhile? Well, the energy to heat the tires came from somewhere (hint: all the energy associated with your car comes from the gasoline you put in it).
