2006 Acura TSX -170,000 miles - totaled in accident...
So I found out my 2006 TSX is totaled. It's just under 170,000 miles. The body shop that has it has an employee who would like to buy it. My insurance company has an adjuster on site.
So as i understand it, I get the total loss value minus my deductible. if i want to buy it from geico, they'll give me a salvage value. as long as the mechanic at the body shop will pay me cash for some amount of salvage value + a few hundred, i should be pretty good.
but am i missing anything?
also, would anyone else be interested in buying it? i never thought about it. it's rear end damage. side airbags on passenger side deployed. he's buying it because he needs front end parts to fix a 2004 acura tsx that has front end damage.

My son had a low speed accident that caused a lot of front end damage and deployed the driver airbag back in 2014 in our 06 TSX that resulted in about $6000-$7000 worth of damage. My USAA adjuster was going to total the TSX because the repair bill was about $700 above the book value after my $500 deductible and I still needed to find a replacement A-Spec front end. I asked if I could pay the extra $700, repair the TSX, and keep a clean title and he said yes. I was lucky to find a replacement CGP A-Spec front spoiler on-line for a car that old. Paying around $1500 out of pocket was a good deal to keep a clean title was a better than +$7500 with a salvage title. The kid is still driving the TSX today in college with a little under 150K on her.
Wouldn't hurt to ask if you can do the same thing and let insurance pick up 50%-%80 of the cost and keep a clean title.
