I never told you it wasnt plug and play.... my words were i think it is plug and play. i also never said i would prove you wrong on the plug and play, i said i would be fine and i would get it done. and what do you mean i did not hook the wiring up right? they work dont they? tell me if i am wrong but if we hooked them up backwards, wouldnt i have fried the boards in the buttons or maybe something even worse in the car? well whatever we did it. it works great and i dont think there is anything else you need to say. but i do have one question..... do you have any pics of the custom work you ahve done to your car?

 

actually no when you hook up those bulbs it doesn't matter how they are hooked up, positive or negative can go to either point on the bulb and it will work. if it doesn't work with your dimmer you did it incorrectly. i have plenty of work i've done on my car and others. just one thing was rewiring an integra dash to make it work in a civic, which is just one of many things. my how-to's are on other websites, all you need to do is search and they show up.

The lights do dim with the dimmer as it stated in my other post on what had to be done. plus the lights are not bulbs, they are leds. We had to open them up to see which way the didoes where facing the we got the polarity correct.

 

...besides...why does it matter if it was plug & play or not? either way he was able to do it...nice job gmfreed...on all your mods...

Wow!! awesome work on the steering wheel. I don't think I can do that myself. Do you guys think the dealers will do this for me? Will it be worth it?

Good job gmfreed! Some people just don't understand it's not how fast a project is completed, it's the lesson learned along the way which is more important.

Just so I understand, the takeaway here is that there is NOT any illumination circuit in the steering wheel, and you had to grab the illumination circuit at the VSA switch, which is NOT in the steering wheel, and run two wires directly into the steering wheel - NOT though the OEM contacts, but on two copper wires that continuously twist as the steering wheel is rotated.

Did I get that right?

Because if that's correct, I just can't recommend that mod to anyone... because if copper wires were cool with that, the OEM steering wheel contacts wouldn't even be there, would they?

 

no sorry eldude if i did not explain it properly. there are two ends of the cable reel, one in the steering wheel and one in the column. both those ends have the pins in the male side of the plug ready for the illumination wires. I had to add the pins to the female side of the plug in the column, NOT IN THE WHEEL. If you look at my pics you can kinda see what I am talking about. I ran no wires into the steering wheel, just up to the steering column, no further than the light switch.

 

OK, you're adding inputs and outputs to the cable reel - gotcha.
