WOW 60 to 70 bucks is a great deal as its way under dealer cost the list price for the 05 switches pn# 35880-SEC-A21 is $139.72 . The 05 switches come as an assy. unlike the 04's which had to be purchased seperatly. Not sure if the harness is the same as it does'nt have a sep. part # like 04's but good luck I hope they work for you .

P.S. The illumination is white not green the same as the door switches and the dash , they are dim though I expected them to be a bit brighter but oh well.

I bet some of the Acura sellers on Ebay would be able to get you these parts at a good price. I've gotten parts in the past from them, and they are always cheaper than walking into a dealer. You guys might want to email them and find out.

I've had good experiences with these two sellers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=36475

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WD1V

Good luck! Please post pics when you guys get this done!

I will give you my findings after I do the work
sory, but you are wrong, the parts are complety different. honda uses 2 wires for lighting their cars, the wires are and have always been red and red w/black stripe. just because the pictures on the site don't look different doesn't mean they actually aren't. when you look at an 04 with navi and without you only see 2 connectors no matter which model you see, in erality the navi has 3 connector and non navi only has 2.

the only part that looks to be the same is the cable reel

the harness for 04 with Navi is 77901-SDA-A40
04 without Navi is 77901-SDA-A20

you also have to buy the complete set(2 switches and harness)
the harness for 05 with Navi is 35880-SEC-A11
05 without Navi is 35880-SEC-A21

well rbf351 you argument would be valid if you read my post that you so delightfully quoted. you cannot go off the pictures on the parts website. i saw the service manual that the acura techs work off of. and i was checking the wiring going into the steering whewl, not the harness that plugs in behind the airbag. i am not sure if you know how steering wheel wiring works, but basicall ball bearings make the connection between the wheel and the column. the wiring in the column is no different between an 04 and 05. when you purchase the buttons for an 05 they come in a kit which includes both button assemblies and the wiring harness for them, voice command buttons not included. being that there is no difference between the wiring up to the steering wheel between both years, my conclusion is that he wheel is prewired for lights and will just plug in with the new harness that comes with the new buttons.

More than likely this will work, as I think the lights are on all the time, not switched though the dash light/parking light circuit that is a red/black wire on all Hondas.......but "....ball bearings make the connection...."???? WTF???? Whomever told you that one is wrong. All the electrical circuits between the steering wheel and the column are made through the cable reel, which is a flat spooled cable that spirals tighter/looser as the steering wheel spins. The only "ball bearings" involved are the bearings for the steering shaft, which is used as the path to ground for the steering wheel.

i know more than you think. it's called a cable reel. all the power to you if you think it's plug and play. it might have the same amount of wires, but they aren't going to be hooked the same way.

you also better start learning how to read schmatics. you will see they aren't not identical and you will most likely blow a few fuses just plugging it in, or wrose frying a circuit

I think i will be just fine, this is not my first time working on a car. working on a steering wheel, yes, but not on a car. i have done plenty of factory upgrades on my past cars and customers cars. i will let you know how it works out. and hell i will even take pics for you guys.

This reminds me of how everyone said you can't install a factory Navi unit into a non-Navi TSX. Now look what happen when someone actually did it.

It's easy to just sit aside and criticize someone else's effort. Sometimes it takes trial and error to make someting work.

Sorry to say, but this and the navigation system are two different obsticles completely. If id doesnt have an extra wire (which it does), then its plug N play, If it does require and extra wire, its just a lead in from the parking lights.

lets hear them, if he doesn't know what a cabel reel is he is gonna be in for a huge surprise when he tries to do this. even though both years haev the same cable reel it doesn't mean they are hooked up the same way. in 1 year 1 wire might be a power wire where the next year it can be a ground or something else. for all you know u can be hooking into a SRS wire and destroy your SRS computer. either way good luck.

Yea, it does suck cause now we have to actually read the posts before we know what assholes they are, instead of just looking at the red blocks

.......................THIS IS NOT PLUG AND PLAY..............
to everyone that doubted this MOD

It is actually very easy to do, just need some patience and some knowledge on factory wiring. I must say that this was a little more than I wanted to do just to get lights in my steering wheel.

First you must take the steering wheel apart and remove the old buttons. You will need parts off of them. For you NAVI guys, you will have to swap the voice command plug from your old button assembly to your new. This is very self explanitory. The grey wire gets moved to the same position in the new harness and the brown wire gets tapped in the same color brown on the new harness. The pic is a little blurry, but it is the first one in the set of pics.

The pins are on both ends of the cable reel for illumination, just not in the plug on the column side. you will need to take two pins out of the old harness and move them into the column side of the cable reel located at the top of the steering column the pictures are kinda bad, but you can still see where they need to go. In my pics, the two wires i added into the cable reel harnes are green/red which is the switched ground and brown which is the dimmer. They are pics 2 - 5.

We grabbed both illumination wires from the VSA switch ( switched ground and dimmer ). Pics 6 - 14

I must give most of the credit to my friend that knows alot more than me about factory wiring for figuring this out.

All my pics are posted, so just click on the link in my signature below. As everyone knows, the lights are very dim so the pics of the wheel at night did not show up.

You can make them brighter by opening up the housings and removing the covers for the bulbs, but that does make them extremely bright and felt that would get a little annoying at night.

First of all i'd like to congrat you on a job well done. Awesome job you did on the steering wheel (as well as other mods). I like how your modifications were done seamlessly and clean as if it came straight out of the factory.

After browsing your steering wheel pics, I must say the job does look daunting. Not exactly a "plug and play" job I assume? Would you recommend this to most ppl to perform? I assume your friend knows wiring pretty well to do such a job. How many hrs did it take you?

I'll email you later for specifics ok?

Again, great job.

Not the answer I was hoping for, so I'll skip trying to do the mod. Nonetheless, a great job. Enjoy your new lighted buttons.

like i said it wasn't plug and play, also if you knew honda wiring you would know by using the red and red/black wire you would be able to use the stock dimmer
