2005 Acura TSX Manual or Automatic

Hi everyone, Im about to buy a new 2005 Acura TSX and im having trouble deciding if i go automatic or standard. I live in Toronto and there is lots of traffic during the day, but i do a lot of highway driving as well, especilly in the winter.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

If your the only one driving the car and you don't have a wife or significant other wanting an AT, get the manual.

The manual on TSX is one of the best MT in the market but the AT is just an ordinary old school one.

Didn't know ordinary old school AT's had 5 gears and sportshift

Not suggesting the AT is great by any means but its certainly better than alot of other slushboxes on the market.

- 5 Speeds.
- Sportshift.
- The ability to redline every gear, which is its best feature.

Get what you want, not what other people think.

Oh and use the search, this had been debated many times.

I live in GTA and recently purchased an 05 TSX Automatic. I love a manual, and have had many cars with them, but sitting in traffic on 427, 401, 407, Gardiner etc etc. makes me appreciate the automatic.

Is it as fast or as much fun as manual? No. is it better in stop and go bumper to bumper traffic? Yes IMHO.

You need to decide for your own situation.

PS - Wish I was able to even consider a car like a TSX when I was 19. Back then my pick was a 74 Vega.

Congratulations

I agree but I miss MT more than I enjoy using the AT in traffic.

He has to make his own decesion yes, but just remember than the 6MT is one of the best in the industry and it suits the car far better than the AT.

And its $1300 cheaper to boot.

Alot of Torontonians around here lately, nice to see

Hey 5 sp tiptronic has been around for 10yr and at least 6yr from Honda(00 TL)! By the Murphy law, so it is old school already

I am in Toronto and I drive 130km to commute everyday and I dun have ne problem driving MT in traffic but I am a die hard MT fans .

I had the same tough decision. Choose either the great 6M or AT. If I was still 19 I would have went for the MT, but the AT with the SS was so good and the AT suited the driving that I do now and expect to do in the future, so I ended up with the AT.

I used to live in the GTA so I know how bad the traffic can be, but the whole time I lived there I drove a stick and did not regret it.

The choice is yours, but I recommend get the stick, have fun and save some money. (which you could use for other options like the navi or body kit)

Good luck with your choice.

(The SS is pretty slick though)

ya...

just assess your own situation, and you should come to a conclusion pretty easily.

assuming you've owned MT cars prior, you should be able to determine whether the inconveniences of driving MT in heavy traffic, bad weather, steep slopes, etc., are offset by your "love" for an MT...

I have the MT and I do sit in traffic on daily. The clutch action is so light and smooth in the TSX that it doesn't bother me. The MT definately makes it much more fun to drive. Go drive both and then decide which is best for you.

thanks

thanks for the suggestions. Im pretty lucky to be able to get this car. Business is good. www.gambleonus.com I havent really driven standard before other than messing around in a buddies car, but im not worried about that.

I drive alot and was just thinking am i going to get sick of the manual in traffic after a few months.

The difference in pricing between manual and auto is $30/month or as you said about $1400.

If i go with the auto, wouldnt the sport shifting be like manual since you can red line it? would pickup and all that be the same?

^^ Let me get $500 on the Panthers over the Lions, and Umm...$250 on the Patriots over the Broncos

And the SS does allow for a lot more control, but you will never have total control like you do with a MT since there is no clutch.

Forget all other factors. Forget wives, forget traffic, forget any reason you can think of to not get a manual transmission and do yourself one big favor:

Get the six speed version of the TSX. Get yourself one of the slickest-shifting, fun to drive and flat out most pleasurable stick shifts available today. It transforms the TSX.

Get it and you won't regret it. All the other stuff will work itself out.

ROW YOUR OWN, BABY!

That's not always true. I plan to buy a 2006 for my wife and she insists on getting a 6MT.

No. It would only be vaguely similar. Slushboxes rob precious power, power the TSX really can't afford to give up. The 6 MT is perfectly geared for this car.

Get the stick.

Reading between the lines I get the impression that you are not overly thrilled about getting the manual and hey thats okay.

The Sport Shifter is pretty slick and even though you don't have as much control as a MT you do have some control and can have a lot of fun. The AT is still really powerful. It sounds like commuting is more important to you than 0 to 60 times. As much as I recommended to you last post to get the standard, reading your last post I would say that you would be very happy with the AT.

Both are great.

Good luck with your choice and your commute. GTA's rush hour traffic is one thing I am happy that I don't have to deal with anymore.
