2004 TSX Accident -- Very Impressive.
Hey all,
Yesterday morning I was involved in an accident with the TSX. I was at a complete halt at a red light and then rear-ended at approximately 25MPH by a 97 Ford Escort.
At the point if impact, I didn't even jerk, which was entirely surprising. I am assuming that this is because the TSX has an excellent ability to absorb energy. My vehicle needs a new rear bumper and exhaust tips -- that appears to be it for now. The Ford Escort did not fair so well and the front bumper was gone, the hood was bent really badly, the windshield was cracked in two areas, and both airbags deployed. The lady was picked up by an ambulance, put on the stretcher and sent to the hospital. Not too sure on her condition. However, the entire situation was her fault as she admitted to the police that she was arguing on the phone and writing things down on a peice of paper while driving.
All in all, I just wanted to report another positive experience with a TSX wreck incident. Seems like the 5-star rating issued by the NHTSA is not a joke.

First off glad to hear that you are ok. Second there seem to be a lot of people in tsx's involved in accidents recently and everytime the car performs amazing as it was designed. This makes me feel safer about driving a tsx.
But wow it is amazing what people do these days while driving. the only time I use my phone while driving is with my bluetooth headset so I dont have to hold a phone. And writing something down while on the phone is just rediculous. Seems like she needs a personal assistant in her car.

You're in the States -- sue her ass.
On the phone AND writing stuff down (admitted to police) means, in Ontario, she could be charged with wreckless driving (licence suspended, huge fine, criminal record). IMO that's game-on for suing her.
Not that I advocate suing people for stuff that insurance covers, but it'll teach her a lesson to PAY FUCKING ATTENTION WHILE DRIVING A 3000 LB PROJECTILE ON PUBLIC STREETS.

Glad to hear that you are okay, and your car hold up well.
Sure, you should find a lawyer and go after the driver who rear ended you. After all, everyone is doing it. Plus, it is Christmas, season of giving.

I’m totally uninformed with this topic. Let me know what you all think! Thanks.

Trust me, her wrecked Ford and huge hospital bills will teach her a lesson.

Sue her? Come on, guys. He's entitled to car repairs and medical bills - not punitive damages. What is he going to do, take her for her Ford Escort so she loses her job at Wendy's and put her and her kids out on the street?

In most parts of Canada, insurance covers for you $1M liabilty and protects you from being sued. Usually.

Another reason why I'm glad to be canadian and living here...
on the note of the accident, ford escorts are as bad as cavaliers - death traps! I've been in 2 accidents where I was in an escort. my first car was a '93 escort and rear ended a truck after someone to the left lane sped up so I couldn't change lanes. the truck had some minor paint damage on the bumper (prolly internal frame work) and the 'scort was written off. Other one was in winter while driving home with my gf at the time, got run off the street and into a parked car by someone changing lanes w/o checking if there was a car there. Front right side of the car was completely f'd and the parked car needed the bumper straightened and a new tail light.
Escorts suck!

Driver/Detailer
Here an Australia, someone saw a driver watching a DVD on one of those portable DVD players with the build in screen, while driving on the freeway at 70mph. The person called into the local radio station (which I was listening to at the time) to report this. The radio show host was a good friend of the state police commisioner and told the caller to give him the offending car's licence plate number once off the air. LOL!

there's a lot of sanctimonuousness going around here too. I'm sure nobody on this board has ever had an argument, written anything down while driving or used a cellular phone in the car. EVER.
Heck there are posts here about people streetracing, testing maximum speed, seeing if they can spinout, converting their nav screen to play videogames and DVD at stoplights, etc.
PS. If you do hit something in Ontario, never ever use the phrase "on the phone" . You must lie about this or you *will* be charged with reckless driving regardless of circumstances.
Another well intentioned law that is now just applied stupidly. Like M.A.D.D. turning into a prohibitionist movement.

Hey guys,
Sorry I did not have the opportunity to take any pictures. The car is already in a local shop that mostly works on high end vehicles so I am expecting a good repair job. The owner of the shop took a quik inspection of the vehicle and told me that the repairs will be very close to $5000.00.

She said: it's GINORMOUS!
don't worry, your claim adjuster will take the shots of the damage. you should be able to get the pics off the 'net, along with the damage estimate.
i know geico posts all the info regarding a claim on their website. talk to your insurance co.
