2004 Tsx

I am currently waiting for my '05 6MT SS TSX here in Austin, TX. Actually, my first choice was CG but i'll have to settle for SS if I want the car in my lifetime.

So the dealer called me last week to tell me that he has a used '04 trade-in that just arrived on his lot. It is a '04 6MT CG TSX in excellent condition with mud guards and mats (12k miles). His price for this car is $26,495 to include Acura dealer certification which extends the warranty.

Is this a "good" deal or should I just wait for my new '05 TSX which I negotiated for 29k to include window tint? The difference would be more standard options and 2.5k dollars.

Thanks

Thats a crazy deal on the 04. He's asking MSRP on a car with 12K miles.

I paid around invoice ($24,750) back in July for the same combo, I wouldn't pay more than $23K if I was you.

Please go on autotrader and look around. That price sounds a bit too high.

I forgot to say that the car was a TSX w. NAVI. Does that make the price any better? With an XM radio add-on the price benefit obviously decreases.

Please check your local postings for used or even KBB. My dealer quoted me $25.99k (before negotiation) on a 04 TSX /w Nav and has 50 miles on it (I'd put my money on it that the dealer would even take $25k on this car. 26.2k on a brand new 05 /w out Nav.

They should be able to come down a bit on the used Navi.
We got a used demo non-Navi for $23,900 w/ 6000k miles on it.
We also got the Cert. used acura warranty.

You should be able to get the navi for $25,900.

gt0: You could have gotten this deal on your new TSX at the time just simply based your location (Oregon) where the demand for sport sedans is not as high. Most people I have talked to that live in the PNW tend to drive trucks and SUV's . I know you'll never get that kind of price (around invoice) in SoCal where a TSX in '04 was hard to come by, maybe 2 on the lot or none at all and we have at least 13 acura delerships within a 50 sq. mi. radius of the Metro Los Angeles area.

Campaachen: Keep in mind that you are also being quoted the extended warranty which about $1300 with that $26495 price. You can opt out of that since you will have the remainder of the original warranty (4yr. /50K) from the time the car was first sold (be sure to find out when that expires). You can probably deal them down an additional $1K depending on how willing they are to do business with you. Therefore, it is possible to buy the used TSX for about $24195 vs. $29K for the new. Think about it!!!!

Here's some analysis:

The problem is, they know they are making $29,000 minus invoice on you right now for the '05, plus any hold backs. Assuming your trade-in value is a constant in either deal--if there is one. I figure they are making around $1900 on the '05 deal plus any hold backs (allowing $100 for tinting...their cost). They get their money two months from now when the car comes in.

Now, they offered you 26,495 for the used car. The trade-in value according to KBB is $23,150. There profit (less extra warranty) is $3345. According to the '05 deal, they won't mark that '04 any lower than $25,000...for you...since they would make less money anywhere below that. Unless they take in time-value of money, since they get their money immediately...not two months from now when the '05 would've come in.

The short story--I doubt they will get down low enough to make it worth your while...assuming you want XM, a brand new car, etc. My

They are now offering me 25.5k w. the Acura certified warranty. Not bad huh? The car also has mud guards and all-season mats. I figured the previous owner ate most of the depreciation.

I say wait for the 05 and shop around in SA (Gunn) and Houston (3 dealerships in H-town). You can get a better price and the new car smell is gone.

mud guards are ugly and you can find the mats for $50 on ebay

~$25K is their break-even point...meaning they make the same amount of $ if they sell you the '04 as they do selling you the '05. I would try to push them lower than $25K...I bet you'll see them squirm at about $25K.

Have you even seen the '04? Is it in really good shape, i.e.- no door dings, rock chips all over, or curb rash on the wheels?

The car is in perfect condition w. no dings or scratches (to include the hood). It was owned by a non-smoker married guy w. no kids. The guy also got pin striping done to the car in addition to the mud guards.

I think 25.5k is a pretty good deal considering the car's condition and the dealer certification. I was squirming about not having XM radio but my next job won't have me commuting in my car as long as I do now. Oh yeah, someone will have already eaten the majority of the depreciation and have broken-in the car.

I guess it depends on how long you plan to have the car.

Assuming you drive about 12K miles a year, and you keep the car three years the 05 will be worth about $2000 more in trade in value and $2750 more in private party resale value.

So, if you pay $29K for the 05 and $25.5 for the 04, the 05 will cost you $1500 more if you trade it in 3 years from now or $750 more if you sell it yourself.

Sounds like you are desperate to own a CG 6MT TSX, regardless it is 2004 or 2005, new or used, Navi or without Navi. I don't live anywhere close to Texas, so I guess I cannot give any useful advices on the price that you are getting. But I myself did wait a long time to finally bring my TSX home. Good luck on your purchase.
