Exclamation 2004-2008 TSX REcalled in 22 States

Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 76,000 model-year 2004-2008 TSX sedans in 22 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.

The automaker said Thursday that the recall will be conducted to install a water-resistant cover over the Electronic Control Unit at no cost to the customer.

Acura said that in cold-weather states where road salt is heavily used to de-ice roads, it is possible for road salt and water from drivers' shoes to saturate the carpet under the vehicle dashboard that covers the metal case containing the ECU.

If water containing road salt comes in contact with the metal ECU case, corrosion can form, which, according to Acura, can damage the ECU itself and potentially result in a vehicle stalling.

No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.

This is an interesting recall. Sounds more like a preventive recall, especially those in states with alot of snow. I checked my ECU and its fine, plus I don't drive too much in the snow anyways.

Will Acura contact me if my TSX is one of the 76,000?

My dealer emailed me about it Monday and I am having it done tomorrow. I was told they would put some new waterproof seal/cover on the case if it does not need swapped out.

Cool

Its probably gonna be a very thin wrap of some sort, because there's not much room around the ECU either.

but it is pretty specific (seems to me, see quote below) on what works qualify for reimbursement. I'm not technical so I'm not sure.

"....repair...indicating the replacement of ECM or PCM because of DTC P0606 or no communication btw the HDS and ECM/PCM, will meet this need....."

Got my letter today… This is one of the things that makes having a dealer 2 hours away a bit annoying… :P I have a feeling I've got time as I put in the all-weather mats about a week after getting the car as there's just so much soggy weather, I couldn't stand the thought of what it would look like on the carpet mats… :x

I just wish they'd let the Honda guys do it (if the dealership is actually trained, of course). With the closest Acura 2 hours away, our Honda dealer has the Acura-specific stuff (mostly things like the different spec oil), they just don't have any authorization for warranty stuff…

^^ That sucks, but I'm sure there are some legal & liability reasons why Honda can't do the Acura recall work.

I'm assuming the carpet by your accelerator has to be pretty much saturated with salt/moisture for there to be an issue... and/or you don't care for the interior of the car at all

My car died due to this problem last May. Car would not start in the parking lot all of a sudden. Dealer found no ground in PCM/and no comm with the PCM.

Turns out PCM cover had signs of rust and moisture intrusion. I would have taken pics but I threw the PCM months ago before the recall was issued. Opened the PCM cover and saw signs of corrosion on the circuit board.

I paid over 870+ in total for the work at stealership since my car was out of warranty.

They taped around the PCM box seams so water won't get in again, but when I took it in for a recall they installed a cover on top of PCM. PCM was less than year old so no corrosion.

Called corporate and they told me to send in reimbursement sheet, which I did. Hopefully I'll get my money back. I want my Money!

I had all season mats, and kept my interior clean. I always tapped snow off the shoes before I got in the car, but 5+years of winter I guess was too much for the PCM.

My appt was Sat morning, 8am... however I couldn't go because, Friday night I attempted to change my rotors/pads... turns out 2 out the 4 calipers had pistons seized up... so the car was up on jack stands over night, I ended changing 4 calipers/4rotors/4 sets of pads sat morning instead.

I rescheduled for May 11th now

Oops forgot about this... I need to go find my notice. My acura is ~2 hours away though too. Wondering if I should just put something in myself.

Hi All, I recently acquired an '07 6MT and according to the Acura website, my car still has this recall outstanding. For those of you who had the reall done and the PCM wasn't replaced, did they still change your oil/filter for free as the recall states? I'd rather schedule this for the next oil change and get it for free Thanks.

You input your VIN number and it'll tell you if there are outstanding recalls. I was surprised that I was allowed to buy a car with an outstanding recall...

Acura has always seemed pretty aggressive on recall notification.

I had the recall done to the 07 last year. No free oil change (not that I'd had them do it anyway). I've never read anything about that and don't see it in the notice. Are you sure you saw that?

There's no enforcement mechanism for recalls. It's up to the car owner/renter to have the recall performed. The manufacturer's responsibility is to make a reasonable effort to contact the owner, and do the work if you show up.

Hi - yes. Campaign K61 according to the recall notice says free oil change. However I re-read it and it only applies if the PCM is changed.

Well, the reason is the campaign number for my (sold) 05 is different (it's S86) and there's no oil change offer in that one. I'll take your word for it for the newer car. I've used full synthetic in the cars since new, so as I stated earlier, assuming it was, I wouldn't have taken the freebie anyway.

Can anyone please post a picture, or send me a picture of what your PCM looked like with corrosion? My Acura is currently at the dealership (not running of course). I just paid this damn thing off 2 weeks after it died. JMFL.
