its pretty explainable. TSX weighs 3300 LBS which is not little for a 4 cyl car. The engine has to push the car in the city so acceleration takes fuel. I get around 19-20 in city. Once on highway, car stays at 2400 rpms at 70 MPH and the engine is relatively compact, so mine gets 32-34 MPG with using cruise control and no need for acceleration. A/C is also an important factor

yea. im driving in los angeles right now...about 95% city drive. lots of traffic lights, stop-and-go, and traffic! i cant believe i cant even break 20mpg at this rate lol...

drives me insane. could it be that driving in los angeles is what is killing my mpg to 17mpg levels?

How far is your commute? How much time do you spend at a stand still?

I had a 2 mile commute at one point and the motor can't fully warm up and it causes the gas mileage to drop off no matter what type of car you get. My transam I consistently got 12mpg on my work commute, warmed up in the city I could get 20ish if I granny pedal'd it. My Maxima on that commute got about 16...normal city if granny it is about 20 or 21.

Yes. Short trips are hard on cars. I have a 2 mile commute myself, and my mpg suffers because of it.

is this even normal? anyone else get this low mpg with city driving?
Normal to me. My 05 automatic (8,000 miles--bought it from my father in law) gets between 17-20 when I do city driving (which is really driving the mile to my commuter parking lot, and lots of short trips). Today, I got the worst mileage ever--4 gallons for 60 miles. Of course, I've had to use the defroster alot now that winter is coming, but the main reason I traded away my '01 Nissan Maxima for this was because I was getting 15-18 MPG with it. Thought I'd at least get 20MPG in the city.
