15,000 mile check-up? (only in NYC?)

For some reason, I assumed the next checkup after 10,000 was 15,000 (maybe since my dealer mentioned it). At any rate, I called several New York City area dealers to price the service, and all of them gave me a price (quite high, per usual) and a list of services (all rattled off the same--tire rotation, fluid check-up, oil, brake check). Only when I checked the manual, did I find the next scheduled service was 20,000 miles. So the question is--do New York City dealers just assume everyone's a sucker, or have others heard of the 15,000 mile checkup?

Depends on your driving condition. According to the manual, if you drive in "severe" condition, there is a schedualed 15,000-mile maintenance.

I think you should change engine oil every 5,000 miles anyways, unless you are running synthetic engine oil, then it's every 10,000 miles. The link below is the schedual of maintenance, which is identical to the one in your manual.

I think what you mean is doing the "services" every 10,000 miles, but every 5,000 in between you want to just do oil changes. No need for an all-out service every 5k. You live in NYC I assume, which means lots of stop & go traffic so do the oil change every 5k and "services" every 10k. (follow the severe schedule in your manual)

There's no way I'm ever changing my oil at 10K mile intervals. It may be OK for some, but oil changes are cheap insurance - 3-5K for me, regardless if I'm running synth or not. Oil gets dirty.

To tell you the truth, neither do I. That is one of the reasons that I am not changing to synthetic oil any time soon. I will change my engine oil every 5,000 miles, and I will use dino oil -- good for my wallet and presumably the environment.
