15,000 cars?
Hey All,
I'm going to be purchasing a TSX in Jan/Feb and wanted to know if the 15,000 inventory level is for calendar year 2003? If so, will Acura be shipping/setting a new lot of cars starting in Jan 2004 based on initial demand in 2003? I'm hoping this is the case so I can have a little more negiotiating room with dealers since "on-hand" cars will be higher.
Your thoughts please, gof

Been answered many times. 15,000 was simply the target sales for the year from April to Dec 2003. Since Acura has surpassed this goal, they simply will produce more cars to compensate for the demand.
I am under the impression that Acura has upped its estimate for the TSXs for the 2004 calendar year.

do you honestly think that a car that is selling well is going to be limited by some number like 15000... do you really think honda is that stupid that they are going to only produce that number and that's it? do you have a brain? then use it.

Besides you should show him where the button is.
kegofron, the simple answer is, if you want a TSX in January, you'll get one. But you may have to wait alittle longer depending on the state your in. If your in Canada, you can have it next day.

Didn't Mazda make the original Miata scarce the first year? Didn't Honda do the SAME thing with the S2000? I remember my local dealer not even giving test drives without a deposit. It's not that far-fetched.
Now apologize to the nice newbie before I have to rough ya up.

While I believe Honda will up production on the TSX For the 2004 calendar year, I still think they will be conservative with their numbers and you'll continue to see the slim-pickings at the dealerships for a long time. Honda has been doing this with certain models for the last few years, and I don't see them changing anytime soon. Take the MDX for example- that car was "hot" when it first came out and you would've thought after the first production year Honda would have seriously upped the number being produced, but they did not and it kept the MDX prices strong and availability low for a few years. Same case with the Odyssey, the Pilot, and the s2000- this should give you an indication of what they're thinking over there.
My guess is a production run of 20,000 for the entire 2004 calendar year, which is the same as 15,000 for three-quarters of 2003- but then again, what do I know...

Honda may just have a better handle on market demand than Ford, GM and DC. It obviously does their bottom line no good if they crank out TSXs, Oddys, MDXs, Pilots and S2000s like confetti, and then need to use incentives to sell them below their cost.
My guess is 32,000 total for the 2004 model year. Fewer TSXs for the 2005 model year to begin in the fall of 2004, because 2004 has been such a looooong model year.

I just picked up my TSX this week, VIN in the 15000's and built in early September. (By the way, loving the car, still happy I chose the TSX over a 325 and an 04 TL).
Assuming roughly constant build rate, they're building about 3k/month (starting March for the US TSX) and would build 25-27k in calendar 2003 for the US. Of course, there's no requirement they continue at this historical rate, and they'll eventually become sales limited rather than supply limited. At the moment, though, there's very little inventory in stock at Northern Cal dealers (and therefore limited discounts).
The "15,000 car limited production" was convenient for sales people, as a minimum ... recent dealer emails still cited that. Ha!
