How many miles have you drove after you did the intake mod? You do know ECU has to learn it before it goes back to normal mileages..

I have no idea why.

I'm going to stop using it.

I think it has something to do with the amount of Ethanol they put into the gas to bring it up to the 94-octane level.

Ethanol really is LESS efficient than gasoline, but "supposedly" is greener (unless you look at the energy spent to harvest and refine it and compare it to gasoline!)

I try to stay away from ethanol blends altogether because I've always found they give poorer mileage in both the TSX and my older Integra.

Curls do you know if there's any benefit to using 94-octane gas in an engine that requires premium? I understand it might affect the mileage, but I've also heard the engine will run cleaner and wears better with higher octane gas.

I know this is a very controversial issue and everyone has their own opinion about it(like oil-change intervals).

I just wanna know if I'm wasting my money.

There are plenty of topics that discuss this here... basically the same as the difference between running 87 or 89, where it calls for 91.

Edit: in short - yes, you are.

in a recent kcal9 news, they mentioned those EPA car ratings are totally whacked and over-rated.

did you guys know those ratings are done at 25-60mph usually? and those are with..."casual" driving charasteristics...

In some cases, yes..but sometimes the EPA are estimated below its real MPG. The Honda S2000 for example advertises 26MPG for highway. Most owners however experience somewhere near 31-33MPG @75-80mph.

I think the worst I've gotten is in the 24-25 range, but my city driving involves a lot of in-city highway. (I just have to share that I got my best tank ever -- 31 mpg! That was about 80% highway @ about 70 mph. avg.)

But yeah, 15 is crazy, especially if the drive doesn't seem that unusual.

when i do 100% local driving i get about 19 mpg w/ pedal smashing...problem is..my local speed limits are around 50-55 mph in Orange County so I think that wastes more gas bc as soon as I get up to 55 mph I have to break for the next light...I have 06 5AT. I think it also depends if you use dino oil or synthetic....I believe you get better mileage with synthetic...and also if you properly broke in your car

I got 33.5 mpg the last time I did 100% highway driving 400 miles (going 80mph on average)

How can ethanol bring up the octane?? Don't you need a chemical reaction to bring up the octane? 94 octane means 94% octane and 6% pentane right?? and 94% octane means it's less combustible because octane is more stable and has a higher activation energy. i think gasoline in CA is 90% gas and 10% ethanol....but i'm not so sure whether merely mixing in a higher concentration of ethanol will create higher octane...

Yes you can burn a lot of gas if you have a heavy foot, but a TSX will still average above 20mpg(11.5 litres/100KM) in city even if you change gears at 4000-5000rpm constantly.
No way. No freaking way. I shift at like 3000rpm in city driving and I average 18-19mph. There's NO way you can get 20mph shifting at 4000-5000rpm. Unless your definition of city has no stop lights or traffic and you are riding in 5th gear most of the way.

I think the brand of gas may also have an effect on the mpg. For me, Shell seems to give better gas mileage than Chevron for almost 100% city driving.

Also check the tires to see if they're inflated to the correct psi. I found out about three weeks ago that that my tires were at 25psi when they should be 32psi. After I filled up at costco, my mileage also went up.

i live in LA, and purely local driving i figure i'd probably average something like 18-19mpg.

it depends on traffic, plus the gas octane here is pretty crummy.
