Depreciation is one of the main reasons I chose the TSX over the less expensive Mazda6 (that and the Mazda's dreadful interior). Over 5 years, the TSX is a much better deal.

I don't understand all these people that will pay $18k for some Pontiac because they think an Accord at $22k is too expensive. Then they sell their Pontiac in 5 years and get like $4k, while the Accord is still worth $10k.

Great link Dabuda. There's not one Ford in the bottom 10 which is somewhat surprising. Imagine selling these cars after 7 or 8 years of ownership? You'd have to pay someone to take them.

Top 10
BMW Z8 54%
Mercedes Benz C class 54%
Mini Cooper 53%
Porsche 911 53%
Porsche Boxster 53%
Lexus SC430 52%
Acura TL 52%
Honda s2000 52%
Dodge Viper 52%
Lexus GS300 52%

Bottom 10
Hyundai Accent 20%
Kia Spectra 22%
Chevrolet Cavalier 23%
Dodge Neon 23%
GMC Sonoma 23%
Dodge Intrepid 24%
Pontiac Sunfire 24%
Pontiac Grand Am 24%
Chevrolet S-10 24%
Dodge Stratus 24%

50% at 5 years is incredible. The TL, S2000, C-class, and especially the Mini are econoboxes compared to the rest.

Ditto - I stopping thinking about the 6 after I saw that.

Has the new mini been out for 5 years or is that just projected?

i think its projected since the SC430 only came out in 2002 as well...this is what the article stated about the depreciation

These Edmunds.com depreciation percentages are based on the national True Market Value (TMV), a proprietary Edmunds.com calculation that is different from the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). The TMV is based on transactions throughout the country, and Edmunds.com believes it is more in line with what consumers are actually paying than is the MSRP.

Dabuda, I notice you've got an '04 Solara. My loyalty to Toyota led me to wait on the TSX until I had seen one. Although I haven't been on a test drive, I got the impression that the Solara wouldn't be particularly sporty, and the V6 doesn't offer a MT, correct? Sorry if it's off topic, but I'd like to get your impressions.

Check out the latest R&T. They have a Accord Coupe 6MT vs Solara SE V6 vs Sebring Coupe Camparo. The Auto Solara was'nt far behind the 6MT Accord in acceleration. It was actually ahead 4.9 into the 0-60. Lot of tourque.

I don't need that list to determine which cars hold or lose their value the most. I already know Honda/Acura tends to hold value the best. That is one of the reasons why I have three Hondas.

the Solara Sport 4-cylinder comes standard w/manual. But all V6s come standard w/auto.

i've only test drove/own the '04 Solara Sport which has sport suspension and perf tires. overall it handles pretty well, not as good as the TSX but comparable.

Exterior: Takes some getting used to but a lot of remarks have been, "looks like a baby sibling to the SC430". see here for pix
My Solara
Interior: Comfy sport seats, decent metallic/carbon finish, and unique frosted tranny plate. Lots of space in the rear, even with the passenger side seat all the way back, there was still about 1-2 feet of legroom.
Trunk: Bigger then the TSX, able to fit two 30"+ suitcases. maybe 2-3 dead bodies too
Engine: Sweet, esp when paired with the Sport shift

Definitely sporty, but still planning TRD springs and new wheels/tires. You can go here for reviews from other solara owners.

Have anybody in mind :sqnteek:

Why the Solara over the Accord coupe Dabuda, not disagreeing with the decesion, just wondering what factored into it?

Well, basically didn't like the styling of the new accord coupe so I decided to look around and the solara sport had these features:

- 3.3L V6 (same as ES330/RX330)
- Trunk and interior space
- Oem kit standard
- Fog lights standard
- Sport Shifter standard
- Unique styling (gf likes it more then the tsx, yeah something is wrong w/her )
- all this for $23-24k

Just wondering, how much do you think the demand for a particular combination affects how much you could really get for it? For example, I would imagine you'd have a harder time finding a buyer for a red 6MT than a black 5AT..
