10,000 miles to oil change !!

10,000 miles to oil change !!
I just got off the phone with the service department at Acura. They are insisting that the TSX and RSX don't need oil changes at less than 10,000 miles or a year. There is a service at 10,000 miles that they say includes the oil change. I used to have a Toyota and whenever I came in for warranty work they would repeat their standard disclaimer that if they see that the oil changes were not done regularly the warranty would not cover engine work so this is a whole new world for me. Has anyone else gone a full 10,000 miles w/o and oil change?

If you look at the owners manual I think the majority of drivers meet the "severe driving" conditions and thus should get their oil changed every 5k miles. That's what I'm sticking to.

had my oil changed at just over 9,000 miles. the 10,000 mile service was done at this time also. unless you're driving under the severe conditions stated in the manual, i think it's just a waste of money to change your oil sooner.

This subject has been beaten to death and back again. No offense abbachia.
If you listen to what the service manual has to say thats fine, you should'nt have a problem. But if your anal about your cars oil like most of us here are then you'll probly be changing it every 5,000 miles or so because you can't stand to see dirty oil. I persoanlly change mine at 5,000 km's which is 3,125 miles so I guess I'm really anal.
One more thing to take note of. Please check you oil level often !!!! My car was low on oil at 5,000 km's (Canadians should be changing at 8,000km) and the oil was extremly black. Although I have not had that problem after that first oil change. Chalk it up to engine break in.
PS - Many of us are switching to synthetic.

as long as it's in between high and low I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it topped off until your first oil change. I used some oil in the first 5000 miles but haven't used a drop since(about 8000 miles)

I've only driven 2k miles in 4 months. With just a 3 mile commute, I'm definitely on the Severe schedule. Should I change every 5k miles, or every 6 months, or what?

My dealership recommends an oil change at 3,500. A friend of mine works at a honda dealer and he also recommends getting an oil change at 3,500. He said you don't have to, but it is piece of mind.
I get my oil changed every 3k to 5k miles. I've got 13k miles now and have had 4 oil changes.
