The computer code to change the transmission fluid just came on in my car. A couple of questions.

I had the dealer flush the transmission 21 months ago (less than two years) and 21,000 miles ago. My car currently has 69,000 miles on it. Is it common to need to do this again so quickly? I also have read a couple of messages on here saying not to flush the fluid, just to change it. While it is going to cost a bit more, I have things like this done at the dealership. They flushed the fluid the last time. Any thoughts??

 

The MM (the "computer") doesn't know when or if you change the fluid, it's only telling you that it thinks it's time for a fluid change. Since you had it changed already (though most likely not the correct way, which is to drain and fill 3 times), you could probably just reset the MM and go on your merry way. That said, if you had a Honda or Acura dealer do the service, they should have known better than to flush the transmission, as damage could ensue (if they in fact did). Honda specifically advises against this procedure. But if your car drives fine, and it has for 21K miles, you could change the fluid or not; up to you. You might want to check your bill and see how many quarts of fluid they charged you for. If the change was done properly, it should list 9 quarts. I'd guess it shows 3.
