06 Parts ---> 05

Hey guys, I decided im going to stick with an 05. The only thing that I was pondering about was getting the Aux input really and its not worth 2000 to have a 06. Do you guys think that we, as 05 drivers, will be able to add the Aux input? Or maybe even use the IPOD integration kit that they're going to be selling? Or do you think its strictly 06 Cars? I question that because it doesn't seem like they're changing the Audio System at all, shouldn't people (by 06 release) know how they added Aux w/o killing Xm? Or better yet, just bring in our 05's and have them add it for us?

If somebody can answer your question, please answer mine. I'd like to know if there's a way to get the Bluetooth feature into the '05 TSX, since the '06's have it.

they most likely wouldn't sell an ipod integration kit if its standard on all 06's except for the RSX. It'll work for all the recent models most likely, including 04 and 05

Theres a difference between IPOD integration and AUx input. Ipod integration allows you to control the IPOD directly through your stereo controllers i think.

i'd recommend that you just get a BT headphone, Or a duplex speaker. If you're gonna use bluetooth to speak in your car through a speaker, u might as well just buy a speaker for it, the plus side is that you can still listen to music while you chat. Or get a sony ericson bt300. It has one of the highest voice qualities on a BT headset.

I highly doubt that there's going to be a full kit that you can simply buy and install the aux input on the 04's and 05's. Same with the bluetooth. There may be one available aftermarket. I believe someone installed one on this board however, he mentioned that the voice on incoming calls was very quiet or something like that. Plus that kit was not integrated with the TSX. I believe he had to install a seperate screen where it says "this is not an ashtray". All in all it looked pretty sharp from the pics.

If you want the factory bluetooth or the factory aux input kits that will fit into the 05's or 04's, like i said above. I doubt that acura will come up with a factory kit. You will probably have to buy the parts individually. However... at this time since the 06's aren't on the showroom floors yet, it's hard to tell which parts will fit where. All we have seen are pics of the exterior, interior, and under the hood. It's hard to spdeculate which parts will fit where if we haven't seen the actual wires behind the dash or the actual system. For all we know, it may be a similar setup that even looks the same, but is integrated differently, or even looks the same and has a different part #.

however, given the fact that the center console pictures show no obvious resemblence of a Aux input, one might assume they're placing it in one of those compartments. If thats the case, hopefully the 05's can just route the wires like the 06. Seems like it shouldn't be too much trouble.

I doubt they will sell any kits that will fit directly into the 2004-2005 models.
Backwards compatibility is not a priority to Honda, the new features are what keep people buying new cars. Why would anyone buy an 2006 if you can just buy a 2005 for cheaper and put in the parts you want.

The biggest obstacle for someone who wants to install 2006 features such as bluetooth into their 2004-2005 is going to be the factory HU. In the 2006 the bluetooth is probably going to be intergrated into the HU, just like the TL. If some of HU functionality is hardware based, you're gonna have to replace the HU with an HU from a 2006 model. This would be very expensive.

Exactly. In the past, Honda has been burned with too much backwards compatibility which lead to the shady black market for B-series motors, S2000 seats, etc. Although I don't believe Honda ever made a formal statement that they are avoiding interchangibility, I see it evident in their new designs.

actually its not part of the HU, it's an added on part that sits where the map lights are. they then mute the radio completly when a call comes in. it would be possible to install, just not worth the money and time

part number 8 on the pic below is the unit
00839770-SEP-A02ZA TELEPHONE ASSY., HAND FREE
( MOON LAKE GRAY )
12005AcuraTL $623.43 $498.74

you would pay the cheaper price

Is this true that the 2006 head unit is different and supplies the bluetooth? because i am installing a 2006 dvd drive in a 2004 tsx w/ navi, and the new dvd drive has 2 additional connectors in addition to what the 04 dvd drive has. I know 1 is for the XM unit. I was assuming the other was for the bluetooth hands free unit. is this not the case? if so, will i have to get a new head unit to add bluetooth hands free?

ahaa! so the 04 head unit MIGHT be able to have the 06 bluetooth installed. its just a huge project to wire it all up properly. i'm throwing in the 06 dvd unit into an 04, so i may try this out putting bluetooth in as well. i have located the hardware.
