05 w/o fog light.. what can I install there?

I've heard the OEM fog lights often got cracked by small rocks...

Any better aftermarket fog lights that are more reliable? Or.. can it used for CAI? But wouldn't that geometry capture lots of water??

Thanks

People with an 05 and w/o fogs usually dremel out that plastic cover. For people like me who have the CT-E Icebox, the snorkel faces forward for direct ram air if that cover was either taken off or dremeled out.

Water? It might depend on what intake you have. With the CT-E, I've driven in fairly heavy rain, and nothing has happened to me, nor do I expect it to happen. With an open filter element, there are things you can put on the filter to guard against that (drycharger, I believe its called).

I've had both installed at one time or another without any problems with either in heavy rain and stretches of 2-4 inch-deep water. I removed the 'louver' on the FL cover and replaced with fiberglass screen. There is a DIY on it on AZ. I have the CT installed at this time.

Removing it wont help u get more air into the engine, or at least u wont notice it.

I don't think that's state-legal.

You can look at passport jdm fog lights, they are similar to oem and suppose to be better then ebay.

Sorry for the nub question as I'm new, but if you install foglights in the area, would it ruin the whole purpose of a CAI because it blocks the airflow?

Yes it will. So it is an either-or scenario

lol... no not really, that fog light area isnt the only way air can get in. if you want to get foglights, then get them. it's not gonna noticeably change the performance of the car if at all.

I figured the only reason for cold-air intakes being built the way they are would be to get that extra airflow from the fog light area. But I guess even with it blocked, it does still captures more air than a short ram intake would huh? Thanks the answer

The purpose of a cold air intake isn't to capture more air, it's to capture cold air. Engine bay air is much hotter than the air down by the wheel well/fogs. This is especially a problem in warm climates or on hot summer days, the engine bay can get quite hot. An SRI is actually going to have better airflow (typically) because it is a shorter pipe with less bends, but it's also hot air.

My OEM fogs never cracked. I've had them for almost a year and they're pretty useful.

you must be lucky.

How are they useful actually? isn't OEM only comes in white? Then how do they help the already very bright HID?

I haven't have fogs since my 92 Saab- but the purpose is illumination of the road without excessive reflection/refraction of light off the moisture creating the fog. the color is arbitrary, though amber might be preferred.

And cold air is more air; denser air.
