04 TSX vs 04 TL fuel economy

hey guys im looking to by a car but i can't decide from the 04 TL or Tsx.I want the TL because faster and nicer car but, im concerned its going to guzzel gas. So i might consider the tsx, considering its a smaller car. Thus cheap on gas. but i did my research and hears the results..
TSX= 20(MPG CITY) 29(MPG HIGHWAY) 354 MILES PER TANK
TL=18(MPG CITY) 26(MPG HIGHWAY) 321 MILES PER TANK....

So what do u think i should get..

Assuming you drive 50/50 CTY/HWY, your average fuel efficiency should be:
TSX: 24.5 MPG
TL: 22.0 MPG

An "on-paper" 2.5 MPG difference is roughly 10%. So, take your estimated miles driven per year, divide by the MPG of each car you're looking at, multiply by the average price of a gallon of gasoline, and then you have your annual estimated fuel cost.

Example:
Miles/yr = 16,000
MPG = 22 // 24.5
$/GAL = $3.75
Cost/yr: $2727 for the TL. $2448 for the TSX. A difference of $279 over the course of a year, or approximately $23 per month.

IMO, not a big deal... get the car that you like more and that suits your needs over the other. And if $23/month is going to break your budget, you might want to reconsider your idea of purchasing a car at this time, to be honest...

Either car is capable of excellent mileage, it all depends on how you drive it.

I shopped both the TL and TSX, although not the 2004 model year, and ended up with a 2006 TSX 6MT NAV. My decision was influenced by the 6MT issues reported in the TL, the numerous squeaks and rattles that I read about in the TL, and the fact that the TSX is built in Japan, and hence may have a slightly better build quality.

Try to drive both and decide which one appeals to you more. After that start shopping autotrader.com, cars.com, and craigslist.org for a well-maintained, low-mileage private party vehicle in your area. When you are close to deciding, sign up for a month of CarFax for $29.99 and start running the vehicles you are considering. You'll know when you find the right one.

At the end of the day, you'll be happier if you go with the one that sparks your fire more, but I completely understand being torn between getting what you want and feeling the need to economize.

Also, if you do decide on the TSX, try to pony up the extra $$$ for the the 2006 model year or newer so that you get the increased horsepower and the other goodies that came out in 2006.

I am actually getting 28 City and 34 Highway, but I am not driving around like a beast in the TSX. Well not always.

Ditto to GermanTSX, I'm getting on average ... 28 MPG, city+highway. On the highway, I get anywhere from 34 - 39 MPG depending on speed, wind, terrain, azimuth of the sun, lunar phase.... I can also get an average of 25 MPG when I'm chauffeuring my daughter around (a lot of slow, smooth driving, with WOT acceleration on the freeways to keep away from SUVs, DWYers, poor drivers in POS vehicles.

But if the TL is the car you want, fits your budget, I'd squeeze the trigger (during the last 5 days of the month, please, unless you want to help some salesman ride out the credit crunch). Particularly if you're truly eyeing a 2004 TSX, there are 2-3-4 problems frequently reported here that ought to steer you to a 2005, 2006, or 2007. Those ought to be in your price range, if you're considering a 2004 TL (I'm guessing).

Also ... the TL-S seems to be the high point of the recent Acura line, from what I read here. Whenever I see one, my heart skips a beat.

I get about 420 kms to a tank in my 04 TSX, but bear in mind, I live/work in a medium sized town in B.C., and my commute to work is 2.5 minutes.

+1 on a 2006 or newer TSX. Average between 32-34 hwy on ours. Also, TSX Made in Japan, TL made in US? I would go with the Japan built TSX, '06 or newer.

v6 vs. inline 4..you do the math. If you like a fast car then go for the TL.
