AWWW man...look im a big fan of "to each his own" but for the sake of everything that is good in this world...dont put spinners on the TL...that would just be wrong...like a fat chick in a thong...just WRONG!

I think your right.

Man thanks for helping me decided becuase I was 50/50 on the spinners I liked the look becuase it had buttons and I like that luxury look but I think I will just go with some regular classy chrome button up rims. Still Im stuck on will 20x8.5 fit or do I need 20x7.5 or give up 20's what is the biggest I can go?

thinking about these - what do ya think?

Never go beyond 19 inch wheels in our cars without some serious suspension work.

Unhappy any help with 3.2 suspension

Im actually in the process of looking for suspension components. Hours and hours of searching for kits to liift my 3.2TL lead me to nothing. So I took my car to a customiseing shop here in rochester NY called Distorted Kustoms he said that there were no kits available and that my best bet were airbags or shaveing wheel walls he quoted me $1,200 to shave walls (I dont really want to but will kepp as last resort). The airbag ride would however be a rough and bumpy one. Do you know of any kits that would make my suspension feal as if I were floating. In my 2001 gs400 I can go over some sh**ty railroad tracks with a cup of coffe and not spill a drop. I love my TL and will not stop untill I have her the way I want. Can you recomend me anything that will helpme achieve this or at least help me be able to achieve 20" rims with 225/30/20 tire's.

sorry for the crappy typing my right hand is in a cast due to me punching a guy and recieving a fractured hand and 2 fingers

thank you again for the great forum

the customizer SaId

By the way the guy at distorted Kustoms also said that other than that I had no choice but to go with 19x7, 19x7.5, or 19x8 at the biggest. But trust peoples info from here more than anything

Here are the pic's of his car they stick out a lil but still there seems to be a big enough gap left over between the fender and tire to not cause whell rub.

ONCE AGAIN THIS IS NOT MY CAR

Man I dunno maybe tommorow I'll go down to Auto Finnishers and get a quote on how much It'll cost to roll my fenders. should look like an Audi a8 afterwards

I'LL HOLLA

the first white one and last green one are on some 20x7.5 wheels......they would fit with no problem....but theyre not the prettiest rims....im hoping to find a way to make my car look just like the black one but my car is the stock champagne color and i would put a color matched dustcover behind the rim

The Guy at AutoFinnishers finnally got the catalog. He showed me some nice rims they were all mostly 20x7.5 and he had a couple 20x7 but they werent chrome. With the 20"s you can use 225x30x20 tires. The only thing I really didnt like is that hardly any had a lip and New York is home of the pot holes. He quoted me a price of $2000.00 for the rims and tires mounted and ballanced with a no scratch guarantee. I search the net first for cheaper ones

Big Shout Out to SteadyACridin for the pics thats wassup.

There are actually quite a few places to find 20 inch wheels and tires for the 1st gen TL's, more so for the 3.2 than the 2.5 from what I've seen, but here are a few places to check out:

Not all are 20's, but look around, there are a bunch...

Well I dont know about the 2.5 seeing as I have a 3.2 But I know any bigger then 225/30-20 tires on some 20" rims on a 3.2 and you will proabably be rubbing with a passenger. Also most of us have systems in the trunk which already add 50lbs extra. But Im not an expert so if you can go bigger go ahead

Why would you ever put anthing more than 18's on a 10-year old Acura sedan?????

big rims look shitty on our cars, especially those flashy "bling" (for lack of a better word) ones.

wow.

for the 2000 dollars you could spend on tires and rims for our cars, you can trade and put it down on a newer TL, or do a timing belt and save up for major expenses on the TL.

Why?? The same reasons people redo 64 Chevy’s - all year mustangs - for the love of the car. $2000 is nothing, all my maintenance is done first before any cosmetic's. To think that 20's are big and flashy show's that you are not as educated as a 20 year old should be. Now-a-days cars are coming from the factory with 20" rims. For a 10 year old car my Acura is in immaculate condition and drive's better then some 2000's out there. Now if you’re to broke to do your maintenance and afford rims well then you should have not bought a TL to begin with maybe a neon is more suited for your lifestyle. I also own a 2001 GS 430 and I like driving my TL more then it. $2000 on rims and tire's is nothing; there are people on this forum with sound systems that cost more then that. So please if your opinion is a negative one keep it to yourself.

Maybe you should ask yourself "WHY DO I HAVE SO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS THAT I CAN ASK STUPID QUESTIONS?". Get a second job or a life

to redo a 64 chevy would cost much more than 2000 dollars. a redone '64 Chevy can go for 30,000 in most cases, or more, if done properly. compare that to the value of a 1996 Acura TL 3.2 with 80,000 miles on it. 6,800 dollars? 7000 dollars?

why put something in your car that is over 1/3 of the value of the car?

Who said anything about how well YOUR car runs, Or MY financial situation??? Not me. people on this forum with sound systems over 2000 dollars? yes, i am one of them.

My entire point is that 2000 dollar 20 inch "flashy chrome" rims look retarded on our specific car, and that 2000 dollars can be spent more effectively on something else, rather than increasing the value of your car by 20 percent, and eliminating about 3/4 of the people who would buy your car if you didn't put retarded rims on it.

Big rims equals.........

-Rough Ride
-Worse Gas Mileage
-suspension unreliability
-a serious dent in the wallet

Some cars these days DO indeed come with 20 inch wheels as a factory option.........

for example........a 2006 Infiniti FX45..............a 40,000 dollar car.

THESE DAYS................NOT 12 YEARS AGO. big rims look better on newer cars.
not 96 Acura TL's with 100,000 miles on them.

my buddy had chrome 20's from a bmw, so we put them on my tl to see if they would fit. hahaha they looked sooooo sick, but all they did was rub horribly, and i believe it was the rear control arm in the back, basicly just sat on my rear tires. that was a big no no

This thread turned entertaining very quickly. I agree that 20's on a TL don't look quite right. Cars that come from the factory with 20s tend to be SUVs or the 300C which has a giant wheel well anyway.

The issue of $2,000 being a significant amount of money is subject to interpretation. I regularly buy lenses for my cameras that cost hundreds or even a thousand or so. If your financial situation can accomodate such a purchase, then by all means.

However, it does strike me when the rims are worth a significant amount of the car. Kind of funny really.

And you're buying Nankang tires? Please. If you're gonna pay to play, then play in style. Get some Pirelli's or Yokos or something. Not some Taiwanese brand tire. Don't cheap on the tires!

The wheel well and whole car just don't seem very well suited to 20 in rims, something smaller, say 18, with a drop looks really nice though.

I guess i got kind of carried away on the whole money thing, seeing as how I also have a couple thousand into my car. My whole point was that you can do something more enjoyable with the car for a lot of money (ex. audio), and that 20's look better on nicer, "pimp" (for a lack of a better term) cars. please excuse my use of the word "pimp". haha.

yeah, like the 300C, or an Escalade
