Suggest good tires for 97 3.2 TL

Can anybody suggest some good tires for a 97 3.2 TL. I drive my car gently and don't have a highway commute to the office. Low noise levels and long tread life are the priorities for me rather than performance tires. Could somebody please suggest some good tires?

Toyo Ultra 800's

They supposedly last 100,000 miles.. but 75,000 is more likely to happen. They are fairly quiet and grip well.

I have them

Another good choice for a quiet and long lasting tire is Yokohama's Avid Touring. The price is also right. Something like $46 for 205/65 15 at tirerack.com

I paid like 350 for a full set of yokohama avid tourings about a year ago, but that is with a replacement/repair warranty and installation. They are good tires and I think they're suppose to last 60k.

Thanks a ton for replying.

Any point in goiing for the OEM Michelin tires ($145 !!). Is there going to be a world of difference between the $145 Michelin and $45 Yokohama Avid Touring ???

No.. the OEM Michelins are crap, ESPECIALLY for the price. I have no idea why Honda puts those on their cars.

Got GoodYear Assurance ComforTreds

Guys
Thanks a lot for your replies. Based on my requirements (low noise and comfort), I got a good deal (I hope so !) on Goodyear ComforTreds from a Discount Tire shop for $390. They go for $83 on tire rack (plus shipping plus installation etc.)

Initial driving impression for now - very quiet and comfortable. It's going to snow in a day or two. Will post a note about their traction abilities then.

I have used Falken Ziex 512s on my 2.5 TL a few times and have been pleased - they don't have a very long life, but are not that much either. I got them for about $50 each.

Dunlop Sport SP A2. I dropped one speed rating from the OEM's. I have had them 40,000 miles & love them. I will buy them again.

I had Dunlop Sport 6000's (I think) on the TL a few years ago, I loved them.

I love my dunlop A2 tires too but they need to be replaced before winter and those tires aren't made in the stock size 205/65/15 anymore. Just wondering if you've replaced them yet and if so, with what?

I'm looking at consumer reports tire story (nov 06 is the latest) and they like dunlop sport 5000 but the size is discontinued, and then Michelin Exalto A/S, and third is Falken ZE512 which is much less expensive than the others but that has poor tread life.

Kumho Solus KH16

The Kumho Solus KH16 is also well regarded in the CReports write up and it's a good price. After reading the report, I noticed that my neighbour has that Kumho on a Benz.

Folks
Reviving this old thread of mine. These GoodYear Assurance ComforTreds didnt even last 35K of mild driving. 80K mileage guarantee seems like a real joke - I didnt even make it half way there. I had 120K on the car and the sales guy said - these will be last set of cars you will put on this car. My cars going strong at 155 but the tires are down to the wear indicators...

Bought them from discount tire and they are gonna prorate and give me money back due the tires not living up to their mileage expectations.

Any recommendations of what to go in for next?

Yes, I have recommendations, but how much are you willing to spend?

I like the Potenza RE960AS for what you've described as your needs. Never give up on performance for cost, as that extra grip is what will save you from spinning out or sliding into something. My tires saved my ass when a woman in an SUV merged onto the freeway cutting two lanes over into my lane at 20 when I was coming down at 65.

~Cheers~

Potenza!! You are referring to the 960ASs, right?

Think about your last experience with the Goodyears. IMO, unless they're Eagle F1s, I wouldn't touch Goodyears.

~Cheers~

Yes, Yoko's that's what I forgot to list!

My 1st set of replacement tires were Yoko's from Michelin back in 2000. Now they are still on Yoko's just because I bought the 3rd Gen Rims with a slightly used set of Yoko OEM tires. Love it!
