Speedometer failure

Hey Guys.

My speedometer suddenly quit working, plus I am now getting error code P1790 (or P1791).

I have looked up the error code, but all I can find is it is transmission related. I figure the speed sensor is mounted on the transmission, so replacing it should take care of the problem.... I think. The transission gear changing hasn't been affected too much, but it does sometimes shift a bit hard.

Anyone had the same experience? And, if it is the speed sensor, where on the tranny is it located, and how difficult to replace?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks.

I have a 1993 Legend (on this site trying to find something to help my son's TL) and have an erratic behaving speedometer and the "D4" light is flashing. The Legend forum indicates I need a new VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) code 17 for me.

Trying to find the spot on this forum which tells me how to connect to the TL's computer and code info. I'll keep looking but if someone reads this and can offer a link it might save me some time.

Thanks
