Like the title says, neither of my rear speakers work at all. This car was given to me by my dad, and prior to that he took out the radio since he needed the serial number to activate it. My first guess is that he forgot to connect up a wire, so that's going to be the first place I check. But if I don't find a loose one, what are some other ideas?

 

Does the radio work at all?

 

Yeah, the radio works fine. The front speakers have no problem, it's just the rear ones. While driving today I noticed that the rear speakers will actually crackle a little bit every few minutes, but other than that there's no sound.

 

I'm having the same problem with one of my rear speakers. I haven't been able to figure out the problem though. Are they aftermarket speakers? If not just repalce them because you will probably end up replacing them anyway.

 

They're the stock ones. First I want to see if they actually work or if it's the speakers that are blown out. I don't need a high quality stereo system in my car, I just want a working one.

Well since the first ones work, take off a door panel, remove the speaker and see if it works in the back. Once you have the front one out, for the back it is simply just a matter of disconnecting the rear one and attaching it to the front one.

The factory harnesses are the same size for the front and the rear so don't worry about them not fitting.

I think this would be the easiest way to figuring out if the back ones work or not.

I know this may sound like a question but you have the fade balanced right.

 

Yeah, I messed with the fade and balance to make sure they were actually not working. I'll try working on them tomorrow.

So today I was driving home and I noticed that the music wasn't as loud as it usually is. I faded it to the back and I was only getting music out of the tweeter on the right one. I am so upset right now because these are brand new speakers so I know they aren't bad.

Do you guys know if there is a relay or fuse that controls the rear speakers?

Ninja I'm sorry for jacking your thread but since we are having the same issue I figured it would help the both of us.

 

Speaker problem fixed for me. I have a multimeter but don't know how to use it. So I took out one of my front speakers, plugged it into the back, and it worked. Apparently both of my rear speakers are just blown.

 

Hmmm that is interesting.

My speakers are brand new and this problem happened before I replaced my speakers. I wonder what it may be.

 

I recommend trying what I did. If your front speakers work, plug one into the back and see if it works. I know you said your speakers are only two months old, but at least it's somewhere to start.

(Then plug your rear speakers into the front if the front speakers don't work in the rear, since it could be that both your rear speakers are blown AND something else is wrong, but you wouldn't know it.)
