Odd Acceleration

Lately when I accelerate from a stop, or take my foot off the gas and put it back on my car kind of "jumps" like it pauses then gets the message to accelerate and does it quickly and kinda jerks. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know of any fixes? Thanks.

Did you change out the filter in the trans or just do a drain and fill?

no i didnt replace the filter, it was flushed 10k before i bought it. i would do the differential 1st that made the biggest difference for me. i replaced once, added proper level and a cleaning agent, then replaced with all gear oil a couple hundred miles later.

Well, I replaced the differential yesterday, and it didnt seem to make any difference. I still need to flush the transmission and replace the screen in it. You think that will take care of it?

Do you have a lots of mileage on the car?
My understanding is not to flush an tranny, rather do a drain and fill.

Well, got all that work done. Not much of the slipping anymore, BUT I still feel like my car is lacking. I'd compare how my car drives to like...trying to breathe through a tiny straw, if you get what I'm saying. It just feels like it has to try too hard to get up even to a minimal speed. Does anyone have any ideas of why this is?

Then that's not the issue. I would check all the filters, air filter, fuel filter, when was the last time spark plugs were replaced?

I don't know about the "jerking" but the sluggish performance may be because of a stretched timing belt.

Could worn engine mounts play a part in it?

I may have the answer now! I took my car in to my mechanic to put on the distributor o-ring and as I left my car was barely driving. I would press on the gas and nothing would happen then it would jump, then stop again. I brought it back and he said that when he cleaned off all the carbon and what not on my distributor cap that it was really worn out, and he is now putting in a new one. I'm really hoping this fixes the problem. I'm thinking it will.

Around $50. A new problem arose if you can maybe tell me anything about it, when he was doing the distributor he had to keep it over night because he said the timing was off and he had to time it. I got my car back and while I was driving the ABS light came on. I was watching the light and it switched off at the exact same time my radio turned off and turned back on, and it is repeating this now. Also, my headlights get dim and then bright again while I'm driving. Could some one please tell me anything they think it may be?

My headlights do the same thing but it only happens to me occasionally so I don't think that is a major problem, but I could be wrong. If you haven't checked your brake fluid yet then do that because one time my ABS light came on and it was because my brake fluid level was low and I filled it up one time and it was fine after that.

I'll look at my brake fluid. It just seemed like it may be something electrical because my radio and my ABS light go off and on at the exact same time, and the headlight dimming is also recent.

I'll have to get that checked out. All of it is really sudden, though. It hadnt done anything like this until after I picked it up.

When it rains it pours. That is the way things happen. When something goes wrong other things go wrong, but hopefully you can get everything fixed so you don't have to get rid of it.

wow, man i read this whole thread, thats cool that you figured it out with that distributor cap. That is something electrical definitely I think, cause my friend had a Jetta, and it was doing sort of the same thing i forget what it was but i will find out and post it later. Meanwhile good luck man.
