I have a 98 tl 3.2 with 111k miles. I am getting a very loud noise or vibration coming from the passenger side dashboard. It sounds like a plastic lid opening and closing. This only happens while I am driving over 50. The faster you go the louder it is. (I mean hands over the ears loud.) This will stop for a few minutes and restart. This happens with or with out the AC on. Windows open or closed. Fan on or off.

could it be the driveshaft on that side that is out of balance? check it for leaks..

 

I will check. the noise seems to be in side the cabin, perhaps a ventilation related issue.

 

Check for wiring harnesses that might be rattling. I noticed one on the drivers side underneath in the footwell that was rubbing against a plastic panel. Fixed that and now its back to being quiet as a tomb.

 

The recirculate door may be loose. It's driven by a motor, but may be spring loaded to return to vent w/o motor input. It might try to flap w/ enough air flow from car speed. Long shot, but hard to imagine a noise that loud inside the cabin!
