No overdrive
This is a 1996 2.5 tl that i received as payment for a personal loan.It had 105,000 miles at that time and i did not drive it much, but was running very well.My niece used it for aprox 12,000 miles.I had to take off the seats and center console as soon as i got the car back(did not drive it at all before doing this)in order to clean it well. Now the car runs well, but does not shift into overdrive. It upshifts i-2-3 very well and downshifts well too.The fluid level is good and the fluid is clean. Are there any electrical connections that i may have disturbed? Is there any o/d switch? Thanks for any help.

Torque converter lockup may not be occuring. If you go up a slight grade w/ cruise control set to 60mph, the engine rpm should stay constant as engine throttle opens to maintain speed. If engine speed increases 100-300 rpm, then lockup is not occuring. I have this problem on my 97 2.5TL. It's a hydraulic trans problem (not repairable w/o removing trans) and sets code P0740 (engine and wheel speed mismatch due to no lockup).
In any case, I would check for transmission codes w/ obd2 scanner to see if any are there. Some codes don't cause D4 to flash or CEL to set.
good luck
