Lucas engine oil stop leak

I just got a 96 2.5 TL with 145k and it turns out I've got an oil leak. Just wondered if Lucas engine oil stop leak would be worth a try before taking it in for an mechanic to check out. btw, chain auto parts store auto code reading didn't show any probs.

Any advice.?

extra info:
Not sure where the leak is coming from yet but was doing 110 on freeway for a 10 mile stretch pulled off at exit.. braking hard at stop sign and got a ton of whitish smoke from under hood for about 5-10 minutes at gas station. temp was never past halfway point. valve seals perhaps?? not much of a car guy./... yet.

Any advice.?

How far down the dipstick is the oil level?
high speeds will cause the cat to get realllly hot and give off fumes and smoke
Look under the car where the trans and engine meet- there should be an inspection plate there- if the rear main seal leaks that where it shows

first thing is to find the source of the leak.
Than you would know what needs to be done next.
