Leaking PS Fluid

Had my acura at the dealer for the 98-031 emissions recall, and asked them for their comments on 3 issues. Any comments from the group would be welcome, because as you will likely guess, I told them I wouldn't be spending what they wanted for the repairs.

1. Leaking slowly from the PS pump. They wanted to replace, along with fluid resovoir. I declined, can't seals be replaced short of replacing the whole thing?

2. Drip of ps fluid from the area inboard of the left front wheel, near a silver bolt. Dealer diagnosed that the entire rack would need to be replaced to fix drip. I declined, same logic as above.

3. Driver's door won't lock or unlock with the key. Works fine from inside the car, and from the other side with the key. They wanted 100.00 to give me an estimate. I declined, has anyone had this before?

Is there anyplace online for service manual information? I would like the helm manual, but $60.00 is steep.

thanks.

PS leak can sometimes be fixed by Lucas PS treatment. My father had a leaking rack on a 97 Toyota Avalon. A few weeks after the treatment the leak stopped completely and 1yr+ later, the leak has not returned. It's worth a shot before you replace the pump and rack to stop a leak. Pump seals can be replaced, but it's probably not cost effective to pay for labor to do this. A cheaper fix would be to purchase used parts for installation, however labor for rack installation is not trivial.

Drivers door lock has a small microswitch that has probably failed. Labor to access is significant. I would live w/ the problem, particularly if you have remote door locks.

good luck
