Fluid Leak
I just bought my 1998 3.2tl about 2 weeks ago. I had the oil changed the day after I bought it and the tires balanced an rotated. A few days later I noticed a stain on my drive way.....it varies in sizes and is a light brownish orange color. It is a pretty constant leak, I have parked all over my driveway and now it is spotted everywhere. My brother looks under the hood and when facing the car to the left he noticed a small tube that is open ended. From this tube is traces of this liquid. We took it to a mechanic to find out what it was and just glancing quickly at it he said it was supposed to be that way it was a differential breathing tube. ??? what is that and he said if I flushed the transmission and changed the diff. oil it would cost about $260-300. Is this leak normal?? and if not what does it mean?? and should I flush the transmission?? Im clueless when it comes to cars and would appreciate any help.

i have a 2.5 but i was leaking oil from the oil filter base(where it meets my block) the first thing i suggest is buying 2 cans of throttle body cleaner and clean your engine of all oil and dirt. then you will be able to see better where the leak is coming from while the car is running look for the leak.. and if your losing oil keep an eye on your oil level.

when it was my oil base gasket it cost around $6 for the gasket and took me 4 hours to do.. if its just the actual oil filter it could be on loose or just have a bad seal.
