DIY Rotors on a 2.5
DIY Rotors on a 2.5
Hello all,
has anyone done the front rotors on thier 2.5 TL?
Do you have to take the center lug off? If so what do you use to get it out? It's held in there by a bend in the metal around it What do you do to get that bend out?

I've done it. It's not easy. The hub is pressed into the wheel bearing and the rotor is between them. I would only recommend trying if you have an air compressor, a high torque impact wrench and a press of some sort or access to one. I ended up having to buy a 625 lb torque twin hammer impact wrench to get the axle nut off. I bruised both of my hands using a slide hammer to try to pop the hubs out. After a couple hours of that, I finally just bought a 12 ton press. I removed the knuckles and pressed the damn things out. When it did finally break loose, it sounded like a gunshot. The whole ordeal took about 13 hours but alot of that was trips to the store for new tools and resting my hands. I could do them again in a couple of hours though.
An easier fix that may be possible is to turn the rotors in place. Many brake shops have this tool. If your rotor thickness is adequate this is cheapest and best solution.
Removing the bearing hub to access the rotor is advanced DIY, and not something to undertake unless you've done some tough jobs before.
good luck
