I just purchased a 1997 Acura TL (2.5) and have had problems starting it in the mornings when it's cold. The guy that sold it to me told me I had to press the gas once all the way down, then turn the key and keep turning it until it would start sputering. Then he said once it did this not to go with my instinct and press the gas, but rather let it rough idle by itself until it smooths out. I live in Houston and it's only about 40 degrees out in the mornings. The other day I tried it about 30 times and never started. I had to recharge the battery and purchased starter fluid, which I now spray into the air filter compartment before starting in the morning. This makes it start right up some days and other days I might have to spray it again, but starts up. Yesterday, it snowed here and I had to do the same thing when I left work int he afternoon. Can anyone help me by directing me in the right direction. Does this car have an electronic choke maybe?
Thanks,
Thanks,

You shouldn't have to press on the gas at all before starting or you might flood the engine. You might want to give the car a tune up to see what happens. Change out the ignition wires, plugs, distriburator cap and rotor and see if it has improve. I too have a 2.5TL and it snow here today in new orleans for the first time in a very long time with snow all over my car and it started right up. I would try that first and see what happens. Btw, how many miles does it have? One last thing, welcome to the forum!
