Cruise Control Issue

Cruise Control Issue
I have a 1998 3.2 TL. 3 years ago the speedometer stopped working. I was told it was the VSS. I have 3 cars, so I parked it. I started it every week, and drove it down my street once a month. I even changed the oil twice. I finally got around to changing the VSS. Speedometer now works and the D4 light is not flashing any more. However, no cruise control. The dash switch lights up, but no light comes on in the display when I try to engage it. The fuse is fine. The steering wheel controls were replaced about 6 months before the VSS went out. What or where should I be looking at now? I can live without the cruise control, but it would be nice to have if it's something that I can do. Could the VSS failure cause a problem with the ECM. Also, I saw a post that said there was a speed sensor under the drivers seat. Is that true? Could that be it? I'm thankful for any help.

I can't believe I've stumped the massive amount of experience rich members out there. So not one person has had even a remotely similar issue with their cruise control system? Come on, some one has got to know somebody that knows somebody who knows the person who knows, you know?

Three Wheelin'
This side of the forum is slowly dying out and not so "massive with experience rich members" like it used to be. It could be related to your VSS, the steering wheel control you changed, or something totally different. You have to know when the problem arises in order for us to give you a better opinion.
When mines was acting up, it was my brake switch not adjusted correctly causing my brake pedal to not come back up enough. We are talking like 1cm here and the way I found out was while driving right foot, using my left foot to guard the brake pedal up while engaging the cruise. Please be very cautious if you decide to try this as I am not responsible if you loose control or do something weird while driving. This is solely for illustrational purpose only.

My cruise stopped working also. I took it to a low cost mechanic and he found a bad or broken wire in the steering column. It cost $95, but I like using it on trips (which I never go on anymore).
