Cooling Fan runs continuous to dead battery
As the title says... I searched and searched, found plenty of threads, but nothing definitive about how to fix.
'96 TL 2.5L - The cooling fan (on the passenger side) runs after the engine is shut off (normal), but the fan never shuts off. It keeps running until the battery runs down. This car belongs to my son, and he's at college, so my quick fix was to pull the fuse and tell him not to run the A/C. Now I'm heading down to campus this weekend and plan to fix it.
What is the most likely fix? A relay in the fuse box? Or some other switch somewhere. Where would the switch be?
Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) switch. I quote another member's response in a similar thread. The switch is in a similar position on 2.5TL, but on driver's side:
ECT thermoswitch A is on the lower radiator, pax side on 3.2TL. Pull connector and short terminals of connector. Turn keyswitch to ON and fans should immediately run.
You can pull the switch and perform a test in a boiler to determine the temperature at which switch closes, or not. If it doesn't close between 189-199F, the switch if bad and should be replaced. If switch is good look for damaged wiring or connector causing permanently open circuit.
good luck
