Unhappy Center Cluster Lights and Speedometer Problems

Hi everyone,

I have a 1997 3.2TL and I was changing out some of the lightbulbs in the center cluster this weekend and now things aren't working right.

The actual guage lights do not work when I turn on the headlights so the whole cluster is dark at night. Also, the speedometer isn't working. The odometer, trip meter and tachometer are working but the speedmeter isn't moving. I've checked fuses and they all seem fine. I've got a shop manual and it isn't helping me. I'm about to order the 1997 supplemental manual and electronic wiring troubleshooting book.

Any suggestions here would be welcome. My poor car is sitting in the garage until I can fix this.

Help me please...

It would be best to go back in and check just to make sure that all connectors are firmly snapped in place. Try taking all the connectors out and put them back in, sometimes wiggling it helps. If it doesn't work then you probably unintentionally damaged the cluster somehow. Maybe a shortout on the electric board while changing the bulbs with oily hands, etc. If that's the case, I would just get a used cluster with about the same milege to replace as it will probably be cheaper than getting the old one repaired.
