Car won't start - key doesn't move to II or start

Well the TL won't start. I put in the key, I can get it to I position, but not II or get the car to start.

Anyone have a similar experience? What could it be? Sounds like a mechanical problem with the actual ignition??

At least it happened at home.

*Paging TexasHonda*

Thanks guys

I just went out there and actually the key doesn't even go to I position, makes it about halfway.

Sometimes if the steering wheel gets locked in a particular position, the key won't turn. Try to move the steering wheel left and right while you are turning the key.

Solution is some WD-40 in the key hole after you get the key out. I had my key bend in there and had to take the entire cylinder out to re-key it.

The key comes out, it just doesn't move past the above pictured part. It almost seems like the whole mechanical lock is screwy..

In the meantime, I took apart the steering column with my pops and hot wired it to get it over to his garage. I'm gone on business all of next week and hopefully we can find a solution in the mean time.

That's what I meant! Get the key out, then lube it up. The grease inside basically dried out and the rings are sticking.

I'm at the airport right now but I'll have my pops try it tonight when he gets home from work. I this works.

^Thanks man, made it to RI, just saw the sickest GT-R on the road

Your WD-40 idea worked! I can't believe it, I'm glad my pops and I took the car to his house yesterday. I was on the phone with him and then all of a sudden I heard the ignition! He couldn't believe that was the problem either.

Never would even think that would be the solution, but thinking about it now - it makes sense. It's a mechanical component that never gets lubricated..after 240K+ miles, it gets worn.

Wow, thank you! I'm

I know this is off topic but...

Welcome to RI.

Did this GTR have dark gold-ish looking calipers and wheels?

The GTR had dark wheels, black or charcoal with gold calipers. It was silver itself. you know the one I'm speaking of? I saw it in Seekonk, MA

I know EXACTLY where that is.

That is at the Ole Country Buffet.

I love that place.

He is around all the time.

Hmm, that thing's practically stock... I like the stock rims better, too.

Still, it's a nice car.

That's awesome.

I have always wanted to go to Vinny T's.

Was it good? Are you at the motel across from Bugaboo Creek?

I'm at the Hapton Inn.

The restaurant was good - had some nice mozzerella platter and got some chicken parm.
