Ball joint steering knuckle replacement

Has anyone pressed in or otherwise replaced a balljoint without the whole steering knuckle? I mean how hard can it be?
A good ole Honda ball joint for 25 bucks is cheaper that $300 for the entire assembly.
It can be done Im sure.

I just had the left upper control arm & ball joint replaced (all one piece). I went to an independent shop, they ordered it from the dealer ($148) and one hour of labor ($70).

I'm not really sure how a 3.2 suspension is put together but i managed to get my knuckles separated from the ball joints to replace my rotors pretty easily on my 2.5. I just beat the crap out of them until they popped loose like most ball joints.

And what ball joint did you use? In other words what fit?

Well I wasn't replacing the ball joints. I was just getting them loose from the knuckle so I could press the bearing out and unbolt my old rotors.
