We did not have the cabin filter...so, it stinks. I just use car freshner....but it still stinks...

The only other way is to get the evaporator cleaned of mildew. That means the the whole AC unit has to come off...sucks!

next time when you're about to turn off your a/c, the only the fan run for a minute before turning everything off.

^ That works. Anyhow, try spraying Lysol along the vents in the cowl, while running the fan. That should kill any mold/mildew build up from the condensation.

~Cheers~

I removed the condensate drain line on pax side center tunnel (easy access), and flushed evaporator w/ air pressure driven mildew-cide (consan) and a weak bleach solution. Let sit for 1-2 hrs, and flush w/ clean water multiple times. Flushing procedure is to air pressure drive the water into the evaporator, and use shop wet-vac to suck the water back out. It seems to have helped. Howver, I agree w/ other poster this design is prone to bad evap smell.

I also sprayed lysol in the vents as suggested.

good luck

Does it smell like something is burning? I had this same problem and it ended up being that my crankshaft pulley had broken.

i did spray lysol on the vents with my hood open, the bad smell is gone, but now all my boys tell me to spray fabuloso because the car smells good but smell like a hospital, 'cause i used lysol concentrate.

I leave my fan running on lowest speed with the a/c off most of the time. No smelly problems.

I have a bad chemical smell when the air starts blowing. I have to open the windows. The dealer said this is a common complaint and they do not know what to do about it. I have a 2008 MDX.

Later models such as yours have an fresh air filter which greatly helps to keep evaporator and heater core clean. However, the filter gets dirty and needs replacement every 1-2 yrs.

good luck

It is very easy to replace.

You just need to remove your glovebox and the filter is there for your access.
