Acura tl 96 shift gear and starting problem
My Acura TL ’96 started having problems when the D1 and D2 positions of the gear were illuminating in the panel all the time. Few days later, the car would start when in P but need to use the Shift Release to move the gear. Later the same day the car won’t start in P so I need to use the Shift Release to move the gear to N and start the car. Also the key will stay stuck on the starter. I took out the plastic cover to check on the shift interlock solenoid because it stopped making the release sound when I press the brake but it seems to be working fine when jumped with a battery. The brake lights are also ok. Now the car will only start after moving the gear back and forth until the N lights up in the panel. The R light will start when in D and the car seems to jump from one gear to the other wildly. This had happened in the last four days and is getting worse. Any suggestion of what can be happening? Thanks in advance.

It could be a faulty or damaged gear position selector switch. Anyone ever spill coke in there. It might help to remove and clean the switch thoroughly w/ contact cleaner (I've never done this and am assuming you can get contact cleaner to switches), or replace the switch w/ new switch assembly ($$ I'm betting).
