98 3.2 TL Speedometer Trouble
Hey All,
My speedometer is now useless. For a while it would just go up to 50mph but no higher. Then about two weeks ago it died. Well it didn't actually die but the needle will only move for about the first 45 seconds (still won't go above 50) then it will start acting very erratic then it will go to 0 and stay there. Took it to the shop and they said it was the speed sensor and wanted $320 + to replace it. I ordered the sensor replaced it myself for $140. It is still not working. Still behaving the same way.
Any ideas? My next thought is to replace the instrument cluster. Anyone have suggestions on a decent looking aftermarket (since I'm replacing it anyway)?

Do I have to take all the molding of to get the cluster cover off?
Also forgot to mention that even though it is stuck at 0 it will jump when I turn the auto button on the climate control. It will also jump a little when I turn on the turn signals. This makes me think that it might be something electric.

Check the speedo cable. My m8's Supra melts them constantly, hehe. Another's 240 did as well. Yes, you do have to take the moulding up to the two center vents to get to the guage cluster. Be suce to unplug the clock and the hazard button as soon as you see the clip as to not break any wires.
