96tl 3.2

so, my brother replaced my radiator on my 96 TL. I was on my way fr SD to LV and broke down. Aftr nearly 4 days, he got it replaced, I drove all the way bk to SD. No problems. days later the top hose burst. had car towed back home, bought new hose for top and bottom(recommened). Went under to replace those. Now, I am not auto inclined whatsoever. Jus bought a repair book that sucks and tried. Drove the car, maybe 2 blocks, gauge rises to hot quickly. Realize, perhaps air bubble. Go back drain coolant, start over add coolant while engine is running. Turn bleeder nut until it streams clear no bubbles. Drove for probably 15 minutes before gauge rose to hot. Do not know now what the problem is. I have heard about this thermoswitch, do not know where it is, what it looks like and how you would know if it is bad or not. I believe my fans do not turn on. When I turned on the AC the fan did not engage. Don't knw what I'm doing.

If you take of the rad cap when the car is cold and let it idle for a minute do you see bubbles coming up to the top of the radiator?

Do both the upper and lower hoses reach the same temperature when hot (I.e. they both should be fairly hot to the touch)?

Does the coolant smell funny, like exhaust?

Does the coolant have any dark spots in it?

Answer some of those and I'll try to help further. You might need to PM me as I am old and forget to monitor threads....

Mark

P.S. How many miles on engine?

Ok, miles. it has alot about 161K. When I drained the coolant after I got back fr LV and it overheated when replaced the hoses, did not notice any dark spots or funny exhaust smell. Although it could just be slipping my mind. I will dbl check that. And the rad cap thing as well. Thanks. will get back with the info.
