My daughter recently acquired what the paperwork says is a 1995 Acura TL. According to the forums on this site the 1st generation TL was manufactured from 1996-1998. As such, I hope I am posting this in the correct section of the forum.

The previous owner told her that there is an oil leak around the valve cover that is allowing oil to drip onto the exhaust. I took a quick look at the engine, however, I was going to pick up a manual for it since I suspect she will be asking me to look at other items on the vehicle. I didn't have any success finding a repair manual at the local Advance/Autozone/O'Reilly stores.

She said she picked up a replacement gasket. I do not know if it is only the valve cover gasket or if it includes the other seals. From reading other posts in this forum it sounds like there may be issues with aftermarket gaskets.

Does anyone have a list of steps and hints for properly removing/replacing the valve cover and replacing the gasket and any other seals? How about torque settings? I also noticed mention of a product called "Honda bond". Is this a gasket sealant that I would acquire at a Honda/Acura dealership? Should it be used between the gasket and the valve cover to help hold it in place or between the gasket and the cylinder head or in both locations?

Are there any other things I should check/adjust/replace while I have the valve cover removed? While I have them out, I will probably plan on replacing the spark plugs. Is there a particular brand/type of spark plug that works better than others in this engine?

i dont know about torque settings but autozone or any other auto store can help you on which gasket and sparkplugs is the best to buy. i'd also like to know what the torque setting should be as i need to replace my gaskets as well. i noticed oil in my spark plugs.
