1g tl 3.2 p0401
Hello All,
I'm new to the forum, I just purchased a 1G Acura TL 3.2 '97 with 174k miles. The man was selling it for 1500$ because he couldn't get it to pass Smog and rather than attempt to solve the problem he purchased a new vehicle. I took it off his hands for 800$. My current dilemma however is that it throws up a P0401 code. I attempted to fix it thinking that I could simply clean the EGR Valve and EGR Line. I also reset the code but after driving it for about 60 miles the Check engine light comes on. I purchased an EGR valve at a Pick A Part since they retail for about 280$ new. I'm hoping that this solves the problem but I know it is wishful thinking. My question to you forum is what do you all recommend? Should I take apart the Intake Manifold and give it a thorough cleaning? If so does a write up exist on the forums? I'm poor at navigating forums and any advice helps. Also what gaskets should be purchased for this undertaking?

My friend recently did this job for me. Here are before and after pictures of the intake manifold:
I bought the car off-lease so I didn't bother with premium gas. Lots of carbon!
It cleaned up beautifully!
